Excerpt: We've already seen HIS bring us the HD 6870 Turbo which was quite fast, so it comes as no surprise that Sapphire has come out with a TOXIC version of the HD 6850. Considering AMD left it up to the AIB to handle the HD 6850, it really doesn't come as a surprise since they've probably been working on the model for a while.
Excerpt: The HD 6000 series is a big deal. It's not just because it's a new generation of cards, but it's also the end of an era. The HD 6000 series ultimately marks the end of the ATI name; instead we'll be using the AMD name hereon. We get the feeling that AMD are off to a bit of a shakey start when it comes to this series, as the naming has caused some confusion out the gate.
Summary: Final Thoughts
When we first got word of the HD 6850 and HD 6870 we thought it would be a completely new card built from the ground up, but all it is, is simply a refresh with a little higher core speed, better efficiency, and some other added features. The weird naming scheme makes you think these cards would be the higher end cards, but they seem to be merely what is going to replace the current HD 5750 and HD 5770.
Pros: – Lots of connectors, – Great performance, – Very quiet fan and good cooling, – Nice list of feature upgrades from the 5850
Excerpt: The new 6000 series cards haven’t quite made the splash we expected. Plus, as the smaller sibling of the pair, the HD 6850 could easily be overlooked. However, just like the more-powerful HD 6870 , this card provides an excellent balance of price and performance. It may be a cut-down version of the HD 6870 , but the HD 6850 still provides plenty of graphical power.
