See lessYeah, so I get it – the Radeon 3870 is sort of old news by now right? Well sure it is, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the better graphic card values out right now – in fact, at its current price range of anywhere between $150-$200, it presents itself as an excellent PPR (performance-to-price-ration) proposition. As I mentioned in our introduction, the Radeon HD 3870 Atomic has been my favourite Radeon HD 3870 board to work with thus far, and it should really go without saying that the Radeon HD 3870 Toxic also carries that accolade. While the factory overclocks on the Toxic are far less spectacular than we saw previously, the reason for this makes perfect sense in enabling Sapphire to create a board that can be mass-produced, and given the overclocks we managed to post with our... Retailing in the area of $190, we think the Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 Toxic 512MB offers an excellent bang for the buck. Sapphire backs the card with a single-slot Vapor-X cooler, a comprehensive retail bundle and delivers a modestly overclocked card that offers solid performance for the price. There is a lot to like about the Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 Toxic 512MB, and we definitely recommend users in the market for a graphics card check it out. With it's higher... Read more
Even though the Sapphire Vapor-X Cooling Technology is a nice feature I think the implementation of it could be better. Under load the fan is so noisy that you feel like throwing the card out of the system right after installation. Yes, the card runs quite cool but what does that help if you can't stand the noise. Another problem with the fan is that it tends to constantly change fan speed in short intervals making the noise even more obvious. If you are a bit handy with... Read more
The Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 is currently going for about $249.99 US @ NewEgg, which puts it right inline with the lower end 8800 cards. This is about the ideal spot for the pricing seeing that the card performs at about the same level. I was actually concerned that the 8800 GTS would not keep up with the HD 3870 before starting the review. After doing the testing I rather pleased that the two cards performed as close to each other. The HD 3870 does an excellent job... Read more
