Summary: I was using the 6970 Lightning card for a couple years when it started acting up on me: It was locking up with Vertical Lines & Freeze outs; just plain Not working. It would run Fine if I Underclocked it to Stock 6970 speeds, but that is not what I paid for.
Pros: This is not so much review of this card (others have already given it the praise it rightly deserves), But a review of the level of service I received from MSI when my last card died.
Cons: Now it will be a bit longer before I can justify upgrading my GPU & there are some very nice ones right around the corner now that this one is discontinued.
Summary: The upcoming R9 280X is supposed to be the same card for $175 less than this. This graphics card flat out rocks. The next-gen isn't out until next year. If you have an old card like me and are on the fence about buying it, just do it.
Pros: I'd been wanting this card for my MSI Z77 MPOWER I bought in January. I finally got this 2 weeks ago. I'm coming from a Radeon 5750, so this card is beyond amazing to me. I got Tomb Raider, Saints Row IV, and DmC from the Never Settle Bundle (everything else I already had from Steam sales...). Th...
Cons: Very pricey for a 7970 Ghz Edition Soon to be replaced by the R9 280X. I really hope MSI has Lightning editions in the pipeline for the new Radeon cards! No dual-link DVI which rules out using those ports for 1440p monitors, but the Mini-DisplayPort ought to work fine.
Pros: Will push out 60 fps on most games on highest... on 3x1 eyefinity with my core2 quad, on x38 chipset. That is save for the cry3 engine I have to drop the detail down a peg or two. Unfortunately going to need another one of these to get that 60 fps on highest, or suck up for an i7 on an x78; but i...
Cons: it's expensive; but you get what you pay for... though that's not really a con It's a heavy card, more burly than some mITX systems I have worked with. ok I'll say it too, for half a G there should be at least 2 active displayport adapters. They are cheep nowadays but a year ago not so much.
Summary: OC to 1200 core without any modifications. Have not tried to push it further yet, but it looks like it has plenty of room to go.
Pros: Really fast out of the box performance. Runs at boost speed all the time. Eyefinity 6 ready on one card too. Fan is fairly quiet on stock speed. Blue LEDs on VRMs look really cool in a windowed case and the design matches the MSI MPower MB. Afterburner software is really nice and displays importa...
Cons: - Fan can get a bit noisy at 100%, but that was expected. - Card weighs a lot and sags under it's own weight. Not a problem as it has a nice backplate, but perhaps a support bar would be useful for some worried. - GPU reactor (removable) may interfere with crossfire.
