Coil Whining nightmare!!!

Anonymous, Newegg
25 May 2014
  • Summary: It will not be covered by MSI warranty as tried registering to their website. Tries to get a lot if personal information from buyer and also you have to upload .jpg images of serial and and receipt which is too bothersome. I would avoid buying products from MSI
  • Pros: It's a good graphics card. Plays intensive graphics games. But don't buy MSI. Buy from other manufacturers instead
  • Cons: It has a very loud coil whining sound( whizzing sound when the card draws power). At first, I thought I'll get used to it, but it gets louder and louder. But there, it was not RMA eligible and I have to call manufacturer. Now It's 6 months and im sorry I bought this.

DisplayPort Fails Daily

Matthew J., Newegg
13 March 2014
  • Summary: I'm not overclocking, I'm using the drivers that CCC wants me to use, and these monitors worked fine on my previous NVIDIA card. I did use driver tools to remove all traces of the NVIDIA drivers.
  • Pros: Great performance per dollar at the Wattage I wanted, when it works.
  • Cons: The HDMI and DisplayPort outputs sometimes tear. The DisplayPort output fails daily (messed up lines on the screen), leading me to need to do a blind command prompt reboot / shutdown. All outputs fail simultaneously occasionally, leading me to have to do a hard power-down, essentially crashing th...

  • Summary: I picked this up during BF and I finally got to installed it it would BSOD my computer. Put my 4870 back in no problems. Went to RMA/return for replacement, newegg was going to replacement then decided to refund me my money instead because they no longer have it in stock.
  • Pros: nice price and good deal
  • Cons: DOA

Good card, But do not ever buy MSI

sdfsdf s., Newegg
31 December 2013
  • Pros: Good performance, and looks. Questionable build quality.
  • Cons: I included everything necessary for the rebate, including the upc, rebate form, barcode, and the proof of purchase. Within the time period, and it says everything is missing! What a joke! Do not ever buy MSI, if you expect to receive a rebate. SCAM SCAM SCAM. Newegg is usually the one at fault as...

DOA

Christopher B., Newegg
13 November 2013
  • Summary: Heat sink and fan on the card feel cheap. My Nvidia GTX 260 feels a lot more solid.
  • Pros: Don't know. It didn't work.
  • Cons: DOA, No signal. I can hear the drive access but nothing on my screen, no BIOS or windows loading screens. I get a grey screen with lines, drives shut down and screen went black, all my fans are spinning. Push the PC button and the PC just turns off w/ no time for a shutdown. First and last MSI vi...

not worth the time for a crossfire config

Jamison C., Newegg
26 October 2013
  • Summary: when did get the cards running got a haven benchmark above 1500 ( specs: amd 8320, two 7870 cards, 8 gig ram, 800 w psu.) in my trouble shooting i did try switching the cards around and tried them with a different motherboard.
  • Pros: good price, , graphics are great, not big a clunky, quite, and graphics are good( in the small window that the card worked. with a amd 8320 not OC and the two cards I got a haven benchmark score just above 1500, with high setting ultra tessellation, windowed.)
  • Cons: man i can spend a very very long time writing up a very very long description of why these cards got a 2 egg rating but im going to keep this concise. i bought the cards for a mid range gaming PC and my goal was to stay under $900 for the whole system. i accomplished that and when i got all my pa...

Avoid if possible

Shawn W., Newegg
27 August 2013
  • Summary: I've been buying MSI branded products for over a decade and I've been lucky and never had to call tech support, now I finally have a problem and they basically told me tough luck and have fun with your piece of junk you paid $240 for....highly recommend avoiding MSI from now on, as I am going to do.
  • Pros: Looks Nice, Games run pretty smooth on higher settings.
  • Cons: Coil whine, coil whine so loud that it comes out of any sound device connected. Called msi, they blamed mobo which was MSI z77a-GD45, swapped still there, upgraded to GD65, STILL there, then MSI blamed CPU, swapped that, still there, then blamed PSU, swapped it and still there, then they finally ...

Won't buy another ATI Card

Virtual N., Newegg
9 August 2013
  • Pros: It can use 3 monitors. Yup, that is the only pro I got for this.
  • Cons: It forces you to use mini display ports. It only has one DVI port. It was pixelating parts of my screen with 3 monitors running. I honestly feel my 5870 out performs this card. I also have a Nvidia 670, thing is rock solid compared to this pile of junk. Through out the years AMD has been very hit...

Second dead 7870 HAWK

Michael D., Newegg
7 October 2012
  • Summary: This was my first and last MSI made card. At least newegg still has awesome customer service, the second card is already on its way back for a full refund.
  • Pros: Very quiet and a lot of bang for the buck.
  • Cons: First card TOTALLY DIED within a week after all sorts of instability and blue-screening. RMAed via newegg and the *second* card is exhibiting the same signs of failure. Erratic power states when idle, erratic fan behavior, freezing and bluescreens. Does the same thing in all of my PCs. Reading ot...

Add one to the "dead" column

Michael D., Newegg
27 September 2012
  • Pros: Ran fantastic, for the few days it ran
  • Cons: Bluescreens and odd fan behavior while idle, and when I finally sat down for a 3+ hour gaming session the card completely and totally failed to the point where any system I put it in refused to POST. Already on its way back to newegg for a replacement after *I* had to pay for the $15 return shipp...
