Random Crashes fixed

Josh T., Newegg
5 April 2015
  • Summary: Thought I would post this since others may be having the same issue.
  • Pros: Fast, has functionality with the software that comes with it. Also gives incentive to buy second monitor; read cons...
  • Cons: Worked great for a while then I started getting random crashes. Especially when streaming video ie: youtube, etc... It is my understanding this is very common for this model... I have had the card for 4 years now and recently purchased a second monitor. Running 2 monitors stopped all of the crash...

Bad batches

Anonymous, Newegg
19 April 2013
  • Summary: The card is only faulted by its widespread problem that everyone is complaining about on these reviews. I have used only MSI for my motherboards in all my builds but that will be quickly rethought.
  • Pros: Great card and when working plays just about anything I want to play. Runs cool and quiet compared to all my other fans (6 fans total). I would have given the card all 5 eggs if it worked properly since day one or if their was acknowledgement of the issue.
  • Cons: When installed I didn't have the time to thoroughly test the video card so when random crashes occurred I did not want to immediately want to believe my first $200+ video card was the problem. Sometimes these crashes would occur every 5 minutes or sometimes I would go days without having one. The...

  • Summary: bad warranty service, would rather buy without warranty from this company.
  • Pros: Works great
  • Cons: Dead fan, and they wont send one too you like ANY other company would... nope they think you going without a card for 2-3weeks and charging you for it is better customer service.. XF* sent a fan no problems why can't you MSI

Aaron i., Newegg

  • Summary: No seriously MSI whats a warranty for if i have to pay extra for a broken fan under warranty still..... 45$ too? to fix a fan? its a 5 dollar part... takes less then 1hour to install do you pay 40$ an hour to fix these? I want an app!
  • Pros: It works great for over a year... Best looking 6870 imo..
  • Cons: Takes 2 6pins Eek! MSI customer service / warranty is horrible. Told me a new fan would cost 45$ for them to put on + shipping, Its still under warranty and i have to pay EXTRA?!

Keeps amazingly cool

Buyun M., Newegg
10 June 2012
  • Summary: If you're set on a 6870, this card won't disappoint, in fact, it's probably the best 6870 on the market. However, if you're after pure gaming performance and not worried about heat or noise, then there's always a budget variation of the 560ti you could get and overclock.
  • Pros: Keeps at least 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) cooler under load than my friends 6870. Silent and efficient. Almost noiseless.
  • Cons: Low headroom for overclocking. MSI Afterburner artificially limits its OCing potential. A shame, considering how well the card is cooled by its Twin Frozr fans. At a similar price range, you could pick up a 560ti for about ten dollars less.

Good card

Joshua T., Newegg
22 May 2012
  • Pros: Very good card. Runs anything i throw at it. From BF3 to Minecraft. OC is very easy using MSI Afterburner.
  • Cons: Nothing, can get loud when fans are on auto and you start playing games, but thats expected. Usually goes around 3000 or so RPM while gaming and 1500 or so on idle.

Wish I got this for me!

  • Summary: This 2 fan configuration makes this card cooler and quieter than my Saphire Vapor-X of the same series. It is a large card but I can't really complain about that.
  • Pros: -Price/Performance ratio -Super Quiet -very cool -quality build
  • Cons: -Size: It is very large. -Is quieter than my vapor-x: Only a con because I purchased this for a friend's PC, not mine!

Awesome card, but...

Maxime C., Newegg
9 May 2012
  • Summary: Looking forward to getting a second one to go crossfire.
  • Pros: This card is extremely fast for the price and I am very happy with it. I play most games on ultra settings on 1600 x 900, including Crysis 2 with the dx11 and texture packs. Super quiet, even under load. Doesn't go above 60c under load (I have a very large and well cooled case).
  • Cons: Either it is tricky to overclock or it doesn't do it well, getting not even 5% performance increase... Very large (had to buy new case, but I should've looked that up before buying it). The GTX 480 was on sale for the same price, I should've got that instead for the performance difference.

Bought local; same card n manufact

Nicolas B., Newegg

  • Summary: bf3 on 3 monitors on high with these cards overclocked a bit more avg 60fps; medium = 90fps; single monitor i was looking at 120fps on medium; and roughly 90 on high. with 60 on ultra but some slight changes to filtering. No issues on any games i've tested thus far;- all working out of box.
  • Pros: Quiet; at least can't hear it over 10 fans :P Grabbed 2 of them, no issues with crossfire nor driver issues. No microstutter or tearing, ever..
  • Cons: none so far.
