Complementary w/ ATI motherboard

William B., Newegg
11 November 2008
  • Summary: Works fine as a supplement to onboard graphics. But don't expect to be playing far cry 2 or fallout 3 with it.
  • Pros: fanless, noiseless, renders world in conflict at 25 FPS, but on low settings. Fine for video and photos. Minimal power draw for those computers with a low wattage, older power supply.
  • Cons: not a 4870, but neither is the price

Outstanding value

Brian Baker, Amazon
27 September 2008
  • Summary: I use my desktop PC for gaming and advanced pro-level photographic applications, including Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom (among other processing software). My <2-year-old PC is already a pretty fast machine, with an Intel 3.4 gig CPU and 2 gigs of RAM and on-board ATI-200, but it was straining and...

Excellant

G. Bacon, Amazon
27 September 2008
  • Summary: I was having video lockups causing my HP Vista computer to lockup because the onboard video would overheat. Put this PCI Express X16 card in and not only are the graphics much better I gained the 256 MB back taken away by the onboard card.

NICE 4 PRICE

Nathan W., Newegg
22 September 2008
  • Summary: Fantastic buy for a starter system, or a gaming rig that you wanna save up for that BIG video card. Dont pass this buy up!
  • Pros: HUGE heatsink that does the job! 3450 GPU that does fine on non-crysis type games! Fantastic bang for the buck! Latest ATI drivers help its performance! PCI-E 2.0!!
  • Cons: Heat sink may take up slot below! Nothing other than that!

Pretty impressive for such a budget card

Eric N., Newegg
7 September 2008
  • Summary: This card will be my stepping stone until I have enough cash to upgrade to a 8800gt. Current system: intel e2180 (soon to go quad) GA-EP45-ds3l OCZ 2x2gb ddr2-800 Seagate sata 320gb hdd antec 550w psu
  • Pros: No fans= completely silent. Has 256mb dedicated memory and can use up to 2gb shared system memory in vista (however, I don't see the point as this card wouldn't be able to use those 2gb very efficiently as its only a 64bit gpu). Way faster than my old x700 pro. Might be comparable to x800/ geforc...
  • Cons: Almost no accessories at all. No fan= heatsink too hot to touch and will probably limit OC factor. That doesn't matter to me though as I don't plan to OC such a low end card.

good for fanless pc

Svyatoslav P., Newegg
30 April 2008
  • Summary: After replacement of the stock radiator by ZALMAN VF900 radiator, I'm able to use this card in my fanless computer.
  • Pros: Cheap, fast enough for HD video and some 3D games, hybrid crossfire with internal 780G chipset's video core increases performance significantly (+20-70%).
  • Cons: Accessories from the picture are not included.

Great Low Profile HTPC Card -- without the adapters

Robert M., Newegg
15 April 2008
  • Summary: Newegg needs to update its pictures and text. The box clearly states that the only contents are the card, disk and manual. For an HTPC in a truly low profile case, this is one of the few HD 3450 cards where the heatsink doesn't protrude above the height of the card.
  • Pros: HD 3450 is a great, silent HTPC video card, 55nm RV620 GPU, hardware video decoder for H.264/AVC/VC-1, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and DivX. Great price.
  • Cons: Runs hot but not overly so, huge heat sink takes up slot next to it. I chose to install it in the x4 bandwidth slot so I could use the other PCI-e slot -- haven't really noticed performance hit. I chose this for the media center / media extender video capabilities, not gaming.
