Update to RMA for defective 9600 GT

Tony K., Newegg
10 March 2011
  • Summary: Took about 3 weeks for the RMA to go through from first emails to card delivery...luckily had a backup video card that was good enough to read emails and such during the wait...not a bad practice for anyone. Finally, warranty period is 3 years FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURE...not purchase date.
  • Pros: RMA'd this 9600 GT card and received a new GIGABYTE GV-N560OC-1GI GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card for an additional $200 as a warranty replacement for this unavailable replacement.
  • Cons: Gigabyte offered a fan equiped GT 240 card as a straight-across trade, but I declined and opted for the GTX 560 Ti for another $200. So got about $45 refund for my original GT 9600 $112 purchase price...

Got a bad one...

Tony K., Newegg
12 February 2011
  • Summary: Issues did not pop up until I tried games at high settings. Worked perfectly, then CRASH. Card always seemed very hot, even at idle with case side off, as soon as system booted. I fear that I got a bad one...contacted Gigabyte for RMA warranty or replacement help.
  • Pros: Quiet, passive cooling looks great. Great video performance FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES OR SO!
  • Cons: SYSTEM CRASH shows a black screen, card heatsink VERY HOT to the touch. Ambient temperature (about 30 C) and gradually climbs to 79-81 C over a few minutes, at idle. GPU hits 105 C within 2-3 minutes, with alarms during games and climbs till CRASH. CPU and system temps are around 40 C constant pe...

eggcellent card

Bill C., Newegg
7 April 2009
  • Summary: this is a very solid product. you can achieve some very good results with some thought and effort. temps are a little better if the card is used as an intake, but positive pressure works ok too.
  • Pros: i'm using 2 of these in sli with an asus p5n-d. this board has only 1 slot between pci-e 16x slots. there is no clearance issue with this card in sli, unlike the msi cards they replaced. at 1920x1080p the 3d performance is equal to or better than just about any single gpu card at any price. in fa...
  • Cons: gamerhud software is pretty lame, perfectly normal for any motherboard manufacturer's software. the frequency and voltage controls work (no need to touch them, really) but the 2d mode seems to have stopped working (no biggie, it's kind of a novelty). this software is not at all necessary for the ...

Outstanding!

Anonymous, Newegg
26 March 2009
  • Summary: No noise is sweet! Just hearing the case fans is worth the price.
  • Pros: What an improvement! replacing an 8800 gt card that served me well for 2 years but the new card is outstanding! I play wow and the shadows, dust storms, death glow I am seeing as never before. Heat in my well ventilated computer is no problem as the card runs with everything maxed out in wow at a...
  • Cons: Size maybe, you need open space around the card for the heat pipes to work and good case fans.

MAX 2/19/2009

Anonymous, Newegg
21 March 2009
  • Summary: Read more TECH. forums...
  • Pros: I have had (and still have 2 in 1 of my cases) 8 Fanless VGA cards. I have YET to have an issue with heat, as I have PROPER COOLING DIRECTION throughout my cases and the builds I have done for customers/friends. MAX, you need to look-up "PC CASE COOLING" on the 'net- maybe under 1 of the 1,000 gr...

To Charlie

Anonymous, Newegg
2 March 2009
  • Summary: Charlie, for nvidia to be able to use the #2 monitor on the left, you will need to setup dual displays with the NV control panel, and then use windows display settings to drag the #2 screen to the left side.. I do this all the time for people at work...
  • Pros: Silent...
  • Cons: Pricey, spend the extra "Alexander Hamilton" on the 9800GT unless you need the silent cooling more than the GPU power.

Adequate video card

Charles H., Newegg
21 February 2009
  • Summary: I had to get a new video card for my new system (my old system and card were AGP video). My graphics needs are very modest, not a gamer, so I looked at several models of PCI cards and settled on this Gigabyte model because it uses a large heatsink without a fan (silent).
  • Pros: quiet (fanless)
  • Cons: less versatile than my old Matrox

It needs a FAN

Larry B., Newegg
19 February 2009
  • Summary: There is nothing wrong with the build quality of the card electronic itself.Just the heatsink only. I use this in my HTPC with this Zalman VGA cooler (VF900-Cu) and it works great and no sound at all.Now I did the homework for you and spent my own money to get where you want to be.So there you have...
  • Pros: This card do what it supposed to do and do it well when its kept cool.
  • Cons: HEATSINK. see other thoughts.( also read Maximusprime2x review below) You need to move the air around this card people. It works like this Copper exsorbe heat but aluminum disapates heat but you still need to move the heat away from the sourse<<misspelled:)

  • Pros: Fast Silent Runs cool Idle 31c Full Load 46c Great software (gamer hud) Great factory overclock 100% stable

Gigabyte Rebate sucks...

Mr. B., Newegg
17 February 2009
  • Summary: I wish someone would rate these companies based on their "claimed" rebate...most people would forget they had one coming by now.
  • Pros: Card I bought works, but not worth full price.
  • Cons: Now in 5th month waiting a Gigabyte rebate on video card...they say "processing". Don't let "rebate" be a buying factor.
