Gigabyte GeForce GTX 550 Ti
4 April 2011
Excerpt: Our friends at Gigabyte released their first version along with all the other launch partners. Gigabyte did not release their based on the reference model. This card sports an overclock directly from Gigabyte and a custom cooling system. With all this card has going for itself, it just be your next card if you are working with a tighter budget.
Summary: While we are not entirely convinced that the GeForce GTX 550 Ti is a worthy contender at $149 US, Gigabyte certainly has done a lot to improve its value. When compared to the Radeon HD 6850 which was consistently much faster, the GeForce GTX 550 Ti costs just 15% less despite being around 30% slower most of the time.

Conclusion: NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 550 Ti is a little bit confused. The design has merit and NVIDIA's now realising the full potential of last year's GTS 450, but this evolutionary 500-series part is fighting in a price bracket to which it doesn't belong. As a mainstream solution, it ticks all the right boxes bar one; price.
