Summary: Asus has priced the HD 7870 DirectCU II TOP edition at Rs.25,000, which is not bad considering it’s a special edition card. AMD launched the HD 7870 to fill the gap between the HD 6970 and the HD 7950 and it does just that. At this price point, it beats the Nvidia GTX 570 by a good margin and is follows close on the heels of the GTX 580, which is a lot more expensive.
Summary: Straight out of the box, the ASUS HD 7870 DirectCU II TOP provided the exact same gaming experience as a reference AMD Radeon 7950, which at a first glance seems like a great thing. The fact that the lower tier HD 7870 GPU is matching the performance of the higher tier HD 7950 GPU. However, pricing is so out of place with Radeon HD 7870 GPUs that the ASUS HD 7870 DirectCU II TOP video card is actually priced similar to the Radeon HD 7950!

Summary: We were positively surprised by AMD's new Radeon HD 7800 Series in our launch day review. Since then nothing has changed. The ASUS HD 7870 Direct CU II uses the same reference design PCB, adds a bigger cooler and increases clock speeds significantly.
Going from 1000 / 1200 MHz on the reference design to 1100 / 1250 MHz on the DC II resulted in a real life performance improvement of about 5%.
Pros: Good performance increase, Overclocked out of the box, No price increase for overclocking, Some additional OC headroom left, Quiet in idle, Native full-size HDMI output, Adds support for PCI-Express 3.0 and DirectX 11.1, Support for multiple independent audio streams
Cons: Noisy under load, Price too high to be competitive, Increased power consumption, CCC Overdrive memory limits too low
