Summary: I've had one for a while now. They were made in 2007 and there were never any map updates. V7 has not supported the Nav740 for a few years now, and the battery shows it's age as well. The battery was never very good and only lasted about 20min when new, but I just keep mine plugged into the car all the time anyway. The voice is ok, but I usually keep mine on mute. The media player is a bit out dated, but I think there is a way to load in a 3rd party player.
Pros: Clear maps, ton's of POI's, different languages, get's you where you have to go. Day / Night settings.
Cons: Extremly slow connection and I'm from NYC. For some reason it likes to take the local route. Loses reception easily. Instructional manual was useless, only spoke about a view features. Horrible battery even we "fully charged".
Summary: I bought this when it was available for under $100 in order to test out what could be done with it as a Windows CE device. It's Nav capabilities seem reasonable compared to my Garmin Nuvi. The real value was in the ability to usurp it's Auto Navigation capabilities and use it for installing XCSoar onto as a flight computer. Not something your typical user is going to do, but V7 didn't do anything to prevent that. Nice plus in my book.
Summary: I bought this because it says that it can handle up to 16gb of sd card. So I plugged my 8gb card into it with the map files copied over to it and my music. The music interface is terrible. It has no shuffle option and there's no way to listen to music as you're navigating. I think it defeats the purpose of having mp3 possibilities because I wanted it to pause the music to give me directions. I heard that many other gps systems have that option, but not this one.
Summary: This GPS device is just okay for the price of less than 100.00. The main issues that I have with it are: 1) The battery does not last very long at all. 2) It takes a long time to acquire satellites, but once it does you generally maintain a strong signal. 3) I have seen better software interfaces on other devices. The map page does not show speed or direction of travel when in the view heading mode.
Hard (impossible?) to input route of your choosing

Summary: I tried to input some changes to the route the GPS suggested, and it was nearly impossible to alter the route. I wanted to stay on an interstate and the software sent me down local roads with lots of stop lights and turns that eventually got me to the same place.
Summary: I bought this because it can also play movies which is cool when you have 200 or more miles til the next off ramp. Comes with AC,DC and window mount. The units map impressed me because it had My Parents street and Map Quest on the internet did not. It helped us getting out of vegas when I missed the exit. It is spastic at times and has to reboot now and again. So keep your paper Map for study prior the trip.
