Summary: This product was released just before one of the Bush administration's rebate incentives. Shortly thereafter, the company that created it exited the portable GPS business making it all but impossible to update the device. Save yourself the aggravation(and some money),use the GPS app on your smart phone.
Summary: I had this unit for one year. The battery wouldnt stay up unless you had it pluged in all the time. When I bought it it had two year old maps on it and no way to up date it. I got in touch with v7 and was told that nothing could be done about it. I first called Amozon and the warranyt was over with them. After threating them with never buying from them again they gave me a refund.

Summary: DON'T BUY THIS UNLESS YOU'RE TRAVELING BACK IN TIME. Yes, the price is right, but like most things there's a reason. V7's website has said "check back in a few weeks" for a LONG time. I assume they've gone (long) out of business. The maps on this device are so outdated that they're worthless. Any business that's been started since 2007 isn't on the device. Any changes to the world since 2007 aren't available.
Summary: I purchased this GPS system so that I could drive without trying to read computer generated map directions. I'm not stupid by any means--very technology savvy...however, after hours and hours of trying to get this system to give me directions to even just 1 location...I'm giving up! If I have to pay more for a more user friendly system, I will!
Summary: Battery lased a scant 15 to 20 minutes. Unit sounds like a loud railroad crossing just prior to shutting down due to lack of power. I tried to charge the unit three times and got the same result each time. Plotting a pretty easy 30 minute drive in northern NJ gave a convoluted route and repeatedly told me to turn around when it made absolutely no sense. Going back for a refund.
Summary: I have purchased many items over the years based on good PC Mag reviews. This GPS is my first major disappointment. First, as many have noted, there's no instruction booklet, and the start up guide is basically worthless. I have had nothing but trouble with this unit. The little maps card somehow keeps failing to boot, resulting in a largely inscrutable error message. Second, the car charger does not work. Third, the unit is completely unintuitive.
Save your time and money -- Don't buy V7 NAV 740's

Summary: PC magazine rated the V7 NAV 740 GPS device as a winner. I bought one. Biggest mistake I have made in years. The instructions were unclear, the battery failed to charge, the unit worked somewhat for a few days and then failed completely. The V7 phone customer support was awful. People that could not speak English and did not know their products. V7 internet support was the same only this time the same people used Email.
