Best unit it is' price range

Anonymous, Newegg
25 February 2008
  • Summary: For the money, this unit rocks. As does newegg who got it to my door the very next day after I placed the order. 3.5" touch screen, clear and vivid. There are POI's installed and maps all preloaded.
  • Pros: Touch Screen, Text-to-Speech, slim profile, price.
  • Cons: Text-to-speech voice can be a bit "robotic" and only 1 voice has this feature. I tend to use another voice instead since they are clearer and I don't always need to hear the street names.

Two units died in less than 1 month

  • Summary: Newegg was great to accept return and full refund for defective units.
  • Pros: Low price?
  • Cons: I am returning my second unit to Newegg. First one worked for 1-2 days, second one died after 8 days. I thought this would be a basic unit that was simple and reliable for my for my daughter but it two units died after a few days use. No restaurants in data base.

Big bang for the buck

Alex M., Newegg
21 January 2008
  • Summary: The multimedia player on this device is good. It plays any normal format of video, audio, and pictures. The picture quality is good considering that this is a gps, not a dvd system. Over-all i highly recommend this system.
  • Pros: On the first run out of the box, it acquired the GPS signal in less then 3 minutes. I have taken it on the road multiple times since then. Its Text to Speech feature works great with sometimes jerky but easy to understand street names. On my trips down the road it kept the gps signal no problem, ...
  • Cons: One of the problems i noticed is that the Poi are limited to mostly restaurants , hotels, gas stations, and certain electronic stores. Walmarts, k-mart, and target not included. Also general attractions are limited. Though if your willing to typing locations manually this can easily be fixed. Whe...

  • Summary: Despite the short comings I still bought 4 units, after finding them for only $xxx.
  • Pros: This unit does most everything, on and off road navigation, track recording, plays mp3, pictures and video. However I wouldn't pay more than $130.
  • Cons: You can only record an approximate address in the Favorites list. This appears to be an oversight in the software. Even V7 techsupport was suprised. I don't think the reciever's builtin gps antenna is as good as others in this price range. I did side by side comparisions with others in the sub $1...

Similar ro Mio C230 but better

KAIYUAN C., Newegg
2 December 2007
  • Summary: Although V7 is new comer in GPS, it sells many other products (and known in other countries). It is even bigger than Navigon and probably smaller than Nextar. I do not know their customer service yet since my GPS worked fine so far.
  • Pros: Very cheap with TextToSpeech (say street names) plus video/audio player. Same as Mio iGo software and TelAltas map in WinCE but better since iGO/map/POI are in SD card and easy to hack (Mio c230 has build-in flash and need more hack to access WinCE). Its navigation GUI is easier than Mio (less co...
  • Cons: Any WinCE based GPS (Mio, Navigon, V7, etc.) has less user friendly (fool-proof) software interface (than Garmin, Tomtom, Magellan since I used all of them; my wife still uses Garmin C320). Go to a store to try a Mio to make sure you can operate it first. TelAltas map (even the new 2007 version) ...

Great deal

Anonymous, Newegg
29 November 2007
  • Summary: Since the unit runs Windows, it makes it very easy to add maps or change configs, etc.
  • Pros: I was slightly reluctant to buy this unit, as I had not heard of the company V7, but as it turns out, this unit is great. The maps are all current and up to date as of last month and it provides excellent turn by turn directions. The GUI is also very pleasing to the eye. This unit provides many f...
  • Cons: The only thing I have found wrong with it is the car charger. The fuse in it keeps blowing out. I buy new fuses, put them in and then after about 10 minutes of being plugged in, they go out. not sure if my car is sending too much power or what, but it is slightly annoying.
