Summary: I have had the unit for 6 months and I went to update maps and they are $20.00 per quarter or $89.00 a year. Desided to order a new Garmin with FREE lifetime maps. Purchased the 5 inch screen Garmin for $119.00 with FREE LIFETIME MAPS.

Summary: The GPS wasn't upgrade, I'm always lost. My motive to buy it was cause relocation in a new and unknown place and it wasn't help me a lot because nobody explained that I had to upgrade later for almost $60 plus.
Summary: I bought this as a second unit to accompany the one I already had but without lifetime map updates and traffic because that is really useful in the rural area I live. The main problem is it also lacks other basic features including the ability to get a different route, I often know that the route chosen isn't the best because I have a basic knowledge of the area but unlike the Maps and Traffic unit, I can't ask for another route. I'd return if it I had that option.
"TomTom XXL 550 M doesn't support 2d direct. of travel."

Pros: Good reliable product at a good price, but this model is limited. I found the new software support to be exceptionally good.
Cons: I have a TomTom XXL 550 M. This is my second TomTom. In my older model I got used to using the 2d view in the direction of travel mode because that is most intuitive for me. This model does not have that mode and I don't like 3d mode. Stosh
Summary: A lot of there products including the tom tom XXL 550 will not do more then 3 stops at a time so if you are looking for a GPS for work do your home work contact Tom Tom they don't put it on there web sight.
Big screen, Easy to use. Simple...maybe too simple.

Summary: I have used various TomToms before as well as many other GPS units. This unit has a great screen. Big and easy to see. UNLESS you are getting sun on it. Screen gets washed out in sunlight. The menu is fairly easy to use and maneuver, perhaps a bit too easy for me. IQ routes are great. Nice to have that in calculating routes. Satellite lock is quick and solid. Big complaint I have is the mount.
Summary: I have never used a GPS before and I'm not a good navigator, so I had high expectations when I tried the TomTom XXL 550. This TomTom comes with a car adapter charger, a USB cable, the EasyPort mount and a very skinny instructions booklet. The booklet gives the estimated time for charging the battery at about 2 hours.
