Not bad but..

  • Summary: I am a avid TomTom user. Product was as described - HOWEVER, the "Lifetime Traffic and Maps" code had already been used - thus not allowing ME to use it. 2 stars for that. I could have just went to the store and got one. Not satisfied for the first time on amazon.

Not User friendly

5 July 2012
  • Summary: TomTom XXL 550TM 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic and Maps Edition) Not User Friendly and the Instructions are the worst I Have ever seen, Absolutely no details. Once in the GPS it is very cumbersome to move to other screens. I would not recommemnd this to anyone. Mapquest.com is much more friendly and complete and accurate. How do I call for instructions? Vince - Not Happy with the purchase !!!!

"Menu not easy to understand/navigate, processor slow."

  • Pros: I like the features although they are not always easy to find. Good voices, car icons to use, volume is loud enough to hear in moving car.
  • Cons: I actually have a TomTom XXL550 SE from Sam's and the SE model is supposed to have lifetime traffic and maps. I tried for several months to update map and finally found screen telling me the time for map updates had ended.

A lot to like... And a lot to dislike with it.

  • Summary: I selected the XXL 550TM specifically for its lifetime map and traffic updates; if there's one thing I hate, it's being nickel and dimed to death to keep a map current. Setup was quick and easy, and I was using the unit within minutes of opening the box. I thought the interface was reasonably intuitive. It found satellites quickly, seemed to know all the addresses and locations I used it to locate on my first trip with it, and overall first impressions were favorable.

"Let's just say this...I returned it within 4 hours!"

  • Pros: I really liked the idea of lifetime map updatesI guess. I'll wait for Garmain to offer the lifetime map updates and will purchase that brand.
  • Cons: Not intuitive. The turn by turn directions were vague, not naming streets and such, just "turn left in 800 yards".
