Summary: TomTom was good before. I had an old TomTom model which is still working perfectly. However, this new device is utterly unusable. Certain routes and locations are missing from the new TomTom, which is still available in my old TomTom device. I had bad experience using this new model.
Summary: I have owned and used the Tomtom for 6 months now and still love it. I was really surprised by all the negative comments, which is why I decided to write a review. I definitely agree with some of the complaints listed but my personal experience has been great! I did not own a gps until I bought my tomtom and only used google on my phone and my boyfriend's Magellan (2 years old) quite a bit prior to purchasing.
Summary: I travel alot and with this product is simple to use. I find that I count on it not only for awesome directions but for estimating how much time I need to get there. I love using the voice that speaks the names of the road - so easy to find your turns... I would highly recommend this product to anyone...
Summary: we love tom, hes a great machine, we bought him with enough time before our big road trip to form a good working relationship, since this is a slightly older model we did an update, and hes very accurate now. he always knows where we are, how fast were going, and even gives us an ETA.
Summary: TomTom XXL 550TM 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic and Maps Edition) Not User Friendly and the Instructions are the worst I Have ever seen, Absolutely no details. Once in the GPS it is very cumbersome to move to other screens. I would not recommemnd this to anyone. Mapquest.com is much more friendly and complete and accurate. How do I call for instructions? Vince - Not Happy with the purchase !!!!
Summary: This GPS worked great for a time, but I can't give it a good rating since it is useless after 18 months. Is that the life span of these things? We tried changing the battery, but it will not work unless it is plugged into a computer. Going to try another brand, but these GPS manufacturer's need to get on the ball - we used our son's Android phone on a trip after this one collapsed.
Never asked directions before, now I don't have to.

Summary: Wow, don't know how I went so long without this GPS before. My wife and I purchased this GPS after much research and review investigation. Liked the 5" screen, the lifetime map and traffic updates. We bought it for a trip to Illinois from Montana (1,300 mi. one way). It worked flawlessly except for one city where it took us one block out of our way, but it self corrected the mistake.
Summary: I purchased this unit for my wife a year ago and can say that it is a very reliable unit. It has made my wife much more confidant in her travels around Phoenix. However, I have had to return this unit twice at my own cost, attempting to upgrade the maps and POI using the latest version of the TOMTOM Home application, each time I attempted to update the maps, the software scrambled the units memory so bad it had to be sent back.
Summary: Been using it for two months now. Like the system a lot. Easy to understand, to follow while driving. Big screen is a plus. However, couldn't activate my "Lifetime Maps" service, maybe I need to call customer service. Otherwise, everything else works right. I like how if stuck in traffic, it gives you the option to recalculate and reroute your trip. The only downside is it doesn't accept gps coordinates.
