  • Conclusion: The TomTom XXL 550-TM makes a compelling case for replacing an older standalone navigation device, thanks to its large screen, solid GPS performance, and free map and traffic updates.
  • Pros: Accurate navigation. Clear voice prompts. Free maps and real-time traffic information. Fast boot-up. Good value.
  • Cons: Occasional UI sluggishness. Drab map graphics. Fiddly power connector. No Bluetooth hands-free mode. Doesn't shut off with the car ignition.

  • Pros: TomTom's interface has undergone a massive overhaul with this new series, resulting in a menu structure that's much easier to navigate. Trip routing happened quickly, and turn-by-turn directions were clear and concise. TomTom's EasyPort mount keeps the cradle with the GPS device at all times, which is great for portability.
