Decent GPS, gets the job done, but power connection had issues.

Summary: I own several of these but bought this one primarily to use during our road trip to Europe. The device worked fine and seemed to be up to date on the roads we travelled. However, the connection between the cord and the unit was horrible and kept disconnecting. If you aren't checking on it all the time, you can easily keep driving and not realize that your battery was out and totally miss your turnoff.

Summary: After much studying, reading of reviews, comparing prices, and speaking to the manufactures, I decided to purchase the Tom Tom 540S World Traveler Edition. It seems that Tom Tom and Garmin only offer one or two models with Europe Maps pre loaded, and these models are about the same price of other models with only US maps. I chose the Tom Tom for a couple of reasons.
Summary: PROS: Interface is easy to use. Unit is highly customizable. CONS: When I updated the maps upon receiving the unit, the updates made it impossible to fit the USA/Canada and European maps on the unit at the same time. I live in Europe and on a recent trip to the States I realized that I had forgotten to load the USA maps prior to departing Italy. An extra two GB or a SD slot would avoid these issues.
Summary: this GPS is good though a lot of funnctions offeredthat are great if u have accident of emergency... you can locate the emergency botton of the GPS..... thought little bit harder to use than GERMIN gps...
Summary: ...hours spent online and on the phone with customer service trying to fix this thing. The unit may be wonderful, I don't know yet. But I purchased the World Traveler Edition, as I needed the European maps. Received a box marked "World Traveler" and advertising the European map (along with North America). Checked the unit... no Europe map. Took half an hour with TomTom customer service just to establish that the unit was not actually a World Edition (has an "RX...
Summary: I have had 4 GPS units. Up till now, I have had no problems with the way they mount to window or dash. This unit just does not seem to stick well to the dash. Keeps popping off even after it appears secure. Also, the way the unit attaches to the mount is not very good. I bought one of the non-slip bean bag type holders for it and that didn't help either as dash mount is too low to fit inside the "bean-bag" mount.
Pros: Nice large screen, very bright, responds quickly to re-routes, advises of impending turns in plenty of time, lane arrows aid in being in correct lane
Cons: Initial map needs update via PC connection...took 6 hrs and still did not show new roads that have existed over a year. Windshield mount is difficult to do from driver's seat due to steering wheel, passenger had little difficulty though.
Summary: This is a good GPS with some drawbacks Pros: Big screen giving more room for the letters to key-in. Bigger images. Lane guidance at difficult junctions. Point of Interests(POI like shopping centers, restaurants). Cons: No address about the destination POIs. Not easily pocketable. Poor battery backup. Misguided at some lanes on freeways. Less internal memory.
