Summary: Thank God that I got this as a gift. This is the worst GPS User interface I used, and I used many due to my continues traveling.
Pros: Accurate Maps, quick start (locates satellites quickly)
Cons: worst Interface, need to press hard on screen., one mistake and you will have to rewrite everything again., for some reason, every time I try to save my home location, it change to an older home location.
Summary: I have been a long time Garmin user (I have had a variety of Garmins over the years, and they have had a variety of issues, from the dreaded white screen of death, to smaller annoyances, such as being unable to locate satellites under a clear blue sky, to ridiculous interface issues, such as having to know the EXACT spelling of a destination THE WAY IT IS IN THEIR SYSTEM, such as E. Maple Road vs. East Maple Road).
Summary: We got a very early version of the TOMTOM 7 or so years ago and loved it. Even without updated maps, the unit worked and got us where we needed to go. I upgraded to a new unit two years ago, and the battery died after a month, so I couldn't return it, and the unit wouldn't work reliably for a day or two every time I updated the maps. I called customer service, and all they would offer was for me to send it in. Disappointing.
Summary: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This product is totally useless and is a perfect example of FALSE ADVERTISING! Here is why: 1- The battery only lasts for about 30mins.....then it needs to be plugged into an outlet. Even when fully charged, the battery dies after 30mins of usage. And this has been the case ever since it was purchased and taken out of the box. Never been dropped or anything.
Summary: Customer service was a joke. I am still waiting to see if I get a refund. I will be happy to turn over to our state's Trade and Consumer Protection...they are THAT bad! All the negative reviews above were the same for me, and worse.
Pros: NONE! Do no order from company direct
Cons: To start with, it does not work, at least the first one did not, which I bought retail. So, I returned to the seller, with full refund. Bought again direct from TOM TOM..BIG BIG mistake! No space for Europe and US maps. RIP OFF!! Back to Garmin!
Summary: Out of the box the screen was freezing. I worked with TomTom customer support for over 2 hours with several calls. After many reloads of the software and many resets, the unit still would not work properly. I got the impression that they were aware of this problem and did not have a proper fix to resolve it. Maybe if you get a good one right off the bat you can be happy. I sent mine back as I was afraid that a replacement would be the same.
Summary: I purchased a new 540S World Edition. When it arrived it would not start-up. I contacted TomTom customer service (sic) and was on the phone for 2 hours before the rep told me to send it in to their service center. Two weeks later they returned a different unit in a box clearly marked "Refurbished". This unit does work but I am very disappointed in Amazon and Tom Tom.
Summary: This gps was bought almost at the last minute for a three week trip to Europe. Tech help and I spent almost 7 hours trying to make it work. Finally one tech support person (excellent techies, btw) said to return it, since if it was this difficult, then I would have trouble in the future with it. Did so, and ordered another to replace it on overnight shipping. Glad I did. Excellent directions (with few exceptions) around Belgium and France.
