The bottom line: The TomTom XXL 540 S improves on the TomTom XL line by keeping the features we love while improving screen visibility; but the bigger size comes with compromised portability. Read more

The new TomTom XXL 540S is a dashboard GPS navigation device that has a 5-inch touch screen, a nice dash mount, and other valuable features. It does, however, lack a few features that other similar GPS units offer, such as live traffic updates and an integrated MP3 player. Read more

It does, however, lack a few features that other similar GPS units offer, such as live traffic updates and an integrated MP3 player. In total, the device weighs just short of 9 ounces and measures 3.5 x 5 x 1-inches(hwd) in size. This measurement includes the "EasyPort" mount, which adds considerable bulk to the device. TomTom has designed their GPS systems to not only provide accurate and user friendly navigational systems but have also added a price that can’t be beat. The TomTom XXL 540S doesn’t come with Live Traffic like some of the other GPS systems but for the few extra bucks you won’t regret the choice. Overall the TomTom XXL 540S is a good priced reliable GPS system with an entire community of people to keep you up to date and on the go no matter where you find yourself. Read more

This is a great GPS device; I just made a long drive with it and had no issues with navigation, use, or battery life. The screen is great...the 5 in screen is perfect for a larger SUV. TomTom made the USB plug on the device proprietary...only the provided cables fit. My iGo nor standard USB cable will fit. Not cool Mr. TomTom.... I would buy this poduct again and would recommend it to friends. However I would consider a device that is voice activated for safer use while... Read more

This is the first GPS I've had and have found it easy to use with many features that come in handy. There are many points of interest included. Selectable routes from fastest to shortest that warn you about toll roads and unpaved roads. The information bar at the bottom (can be altered) allows quick reference without being distracted from the road. Read more

Comments about TomTom XXL 540-S Automobile Navigator: Main dissatisfaction is the windshield vacuum mount. It is very hard to rotate the locking feature. And the rotating ring joint snaps off way too easy. If often comes apart when I'm trying to stick it on the windshield. I intend to shop for a decent dash mount. I really love and use the very accurate estimated time of arrival. And I think the enhanced lanes descriptions are excellent. But, I thought the XXL540 was... Read more or see product

This review is from: TomTom XXL 540S 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) (Electronics) I received this for a birthday gift (that I picked out), and I can not tell it from a new one. I even got the latest map update! Not sure if that was luck or not, but I'm not complaining. I've had two other Tomtom's, and they work fine for me, although the Garmin's do have a better looking interface. I drive a semi, and although this does not have truck... Read more or see product

I am probably going to buy another GPS after the updates expire which is in another 15 months. I will sell the GPS afterwards to someone else. Never TomTom again. Read more
