Takes too long for GPS to connect with a satellite
20 December 2011
Summary: Most people get a GPS, and leave it in the car without adding any updates. So, this is what I have done. After the unit was 8 months old, it would take 15 minutes for the GPS to connect, and then it would take too long to recalculate a route if the street was missed. I originally thought my wife was slow on explaining to me the route in the city, then I looked at the TomTom. I had to forgive my wife. So, from a simple user standpoint, do not get it.
Summary: The only good thing about this product is that it has wide screen thats all!!. The sound quality is really bad and the vacumn lock that comes with the GPS is even more worse... I am now searching for a reliable vacumn lock that holds the GPS.
Summary: I've owned two Tom Tom's. The map program is seriously lacking in updated information. Out of curiosity, I dug out my old Garmin from 2005. The map program with that 6 year old Garmin was more accurate than the brand new 2011 Tom Tom "latest" map downloaded from the Tom Tom website? My next GPS will be another Garmin! No more Tom Tom's for me.
Summary: I've used this device for about 6 months and it works okay most of the time, though there are numerous mapping errors. I bought it because of the low purchase price, but now wish I had looked a little closer. Map updates are ridiculously expensive. The map that came with the devise is a year old and it costs me almost $32 USD to bring it up to date. What is that all about? A GPS routing devise without an up-to-date map? The update service for 18 months cost about $72 USD.
Summary: We bought this GPS because my wife didn't like using a laptop with Streets and Trips. As usual, Amazon shipped it right away, but it languished at the shipper's terminal. It was a nice looking unit with a large screen and clear audio. Initial loading of the software took 45 minutes. Loading points of interest from Tom Tom's website was very frustrating. Their site said it was a beta.
Summary: Some text to speech conversions hard to understand. The words on the screen are small and hard to read. The keyboard letters are too small requiring multiple re entries of the address. I have had another brand GPS in the past and found it to be more user friendly. The Tom Tom is a nice unit but, I would not recommend it.
Summary: i am disappointed, only larger screen and low price attracted to buy, and of course existing brand name. signal strength poor, it takes nearly one minute or more to get signal and occasionally lose singals in between. color scheme is also poor apart from four choices it also does not tell that your destination is on right side or left side. everytimes fall from mounting clip board.honestly i do not recommend.
Summary: I couldn't get the tomtom to work. I could not download the NA map. I tried from all the computers in my house and spent an entire day of my time. I felt the tomtom tech department was not helpful, short and irritated with me.
