Good product, does NOT do text-to-speech. Ebay was wrong.

Summary: The machine is excellent so why do I rate it 1/5 overall? Because it is wrritten in the description that the item does text'to-speech, basically that it announces the street name. This machine does not do that. Not after updating it, installing new software, contacting the manufacturer or anything else. It plainly does not do that. Ebay MUST fix the description to remove this deceptive ad.
Summary: TomTom has a great name and reputation.......but....... Pro: Out of the box it works. Installing on windshield or dashboard is quick. Routes very quickly. Start up can be a few seconds (happens 1-2 times out of 50). Larger 4.3 screen. If you change your planned route it will re-calibrate fairly quickly. Con: Don't even think about updating to a more current map without reading all the caveats.
Summary: TOMTOM offers complicated, and not user friendly customer service. Purchased the TOMTOM XL 340-S as a gift. All was well until connected to TOMTOM Home to update maps. The device received an error message and the TOMTOM system was wiped clean & stated No Maps available. After contacting TOMTOM customer service by e-mail stating the problem after several days they responded with a complicated message containing instructions on how to reload the system.
Summary: I purchased this GPS for its value and overall quality.Everything began in an excellent manner when suddenly there were no maps. Without maps and being able to download maps from TOM TOM HOME, and being told, "Do not attempt this service anymore with your problem."I will not further give any of my feelings ...?
Summary: I should have read other reviews here before buying. I got a great deal over Black Friday, but the device is useless. After downloading maps, the unit started locking up and rebooting. Windows indicated errors on the disk, and now the unit does not even boot up. Customer support was very nice and helpful, but they refused to do a cross-shipment replacement. They want me to send the unit first, and then send out a replacement 10 to 15 days AFTER they receive my old one.
Summary: We purchased this product because it guaranteed updated maps for a number of years. When we got the TomTom unit, we checked for an updated map. The website said that there was one available and we started to download the map. After a few mins. the site said that there was a problem with the download. It told us that the updated map was too big for the unit. Well, OK, we figured that we at least had the original map available and would work with that map.
Summary: I just spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with tom tom customer support only to find out that by updating the included map on the unit that I had wiped it out. The only remedy is to return it. This should have been posted on their website but it wasn't. Even their tech people took forever to figure out the problem. Now I'll be without the unit for a week or two and I need it. I will NEVER buy a tom tom again.
Summary: I cant comment on the actual unit, since I haven't used it yet. But I did buy it 6 weeks ago (I bought it six weeks ago, and still have not been able to use it. That should explain the 1 star rating), and have had nothing but problems with the maps. The first thing I did when I went home was to take advantage of the free 30 day map upgrade. The software immediately had a meltdown and gave some obscure error which was no help.
Tomtom is selling a product with a known defect, and does not note this on their website.

Summary: If one follows the instructions and updates the software and Map on a new Tomtom unit before backing up the brand new device, one will be left with a non-functioning unit that must be returned to the manufacturer. The Map update that Tomtom suggests customers download as a matter of course, and which one is prompted to update as a new customer WILL NOT FIT on the device, and the updating process may render the unit useless, as it did in my case.
