Summary: I bought this 8 months ago with the standard TomTom warraty of 6 months, and it stopped working yesterday. I only used this GPS approximately 15 times in those 8 months and I have no idea why it has stopped working. The GPS will no longer turn on regardless of where it's plugged in and even if it's not plugged in so I have no way of trying to troubleshoot the problem.
Summary: We bought two and in less than a year after buying their MAP Updates they were unusable as they would not update . Having talked to Customer Service , ( What a waste of 6hrs. ) They told me to try and reload again THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! I gave them to a friend to use for parts to fix his .
Summary: By which I mean the worst out-of-the box experience I've ever encountered, and that's saying a lot. I read in advance all the warnings about not to update the maps until the contents are backed up and some voices are deleted to make extra space, and I was ready to do it that way. But after it went through an hour of updating the PC application on initial install without giving me a chance to do anything, the device no longer worked. Said it had no maps.
Summary: I owned an older version of this product, and i regularly followed TomTom's instructions about upgrades, which don't happen often. In the most recent upgrade, I was told how to download a new system and install it. After following the instructions, by unit locked up, and despite several calls, I was never able to get it operating again. The last tech I spoke with said he'd seen the problem and was prepared to send me a new unit. Exceeded my expectations.
Summary: Product lasted 21 months. Yes, 21 months! I called customer service (they barely speak english and are really hard to understand) and was told to send in the purchase documents and they would give me an RMA #. I explained about the problem and the amount of time I had it. They told me to send in the paperwork anyway. I call back and the 2nd customer service agent tells me that it is beyond warranty and I have no warranty.
Summary: The unit I had malfunctioned in the first 30 days. At first, the position sensing of the touch screen was off a bit causing me to register the wrong button press. I had to press the extreme lower right on a button to get it to register correctly. Within three weeks it went to off the button and then unable to push buttons on the bottom of the screen because the field registration was inside the bezel.
Summary: this TomTom GPS is recognized by my Apple MacBook and powers up and charges OK but when I plug it into my car charger with the supplied 12 volt charger, the screen freezes and you see no maps . I unplug it and it won't turn OFF so the battery runs down and I plug it into my MacBook to charge it but it never works successfully. I'm returning it to Amazon. I bought a $100 Magellan GPS at BestBuy so I could navigate around Florida during Spring Training 2012.
Summary: Bought the 340XL-S just over a year ago for my wife. Set up not too bad and unit was fairly user-friendly. Kept getting prompted to upgrade when I plugged into computer so finally decided to do so. Error encountered during upload - had to contact tech support. They got back to me promptly with instructions but different error on next attempt. After about 4 back-and forth sessions they said it was corrupted. They advised me to send receipts for warranty consideration.
Summary: Have used my device for less then two years, have added other country maps for travel and have allways had trouble reloading USA map on my return. This time I can not download the USA map and the company will do nothing,so much for money spent on the GPS and maps. I now use Verizon GPS on my cell phone works well and cost less.
Summary: I got this GPS the other day. Came in a plain box without any packing material and no invoice..... I updated it and the next morning I took to down to my work truck and tried it out. No matter what I tried it wouldn't stick to the window. OK, I had to get to work so I programed in an address I am familiar with on my service route and took off. The GPS took me the wrong way accross town and dumped me at a public toilet..... Oh boy...
