Summary: I bought this 8 months ago with the standard TomTom warraty of 6 months, and it stopped working yesterday. I only used this GPS approximately 15 times in those 8 months and I have no idea why it has stopped working. The GPS will no longer turn on regardless of where it's plugged in and even if it's not plugged in so I have no way of trying to troubleshoot the problem.
Summary: We bought two and in less than a year after buying their MAP Updates they were unusable as they would not update . Having talked to Customer Service , ( What a waste of 6hrs. ) They told me to try and reload again THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! I gave them to a friend to use for parts to fix his .
Summary: I was prepared to love this GPS unit. Unfortunately, in the last year, I've had long, monthly sessions with TomTom tech support (over twenty sessions). Each of the XL 340 units (four or five) they sent me ended up failing, sometimes within the first few days of use. The failure mode was a reset/reboot.
Summary: What a piece of junk. First, the keyboard never understands what key you are pushing. I even resorted to using an old Palm Pilot pointer and it STILL selected other letters than the one I pushed. Second, I took a 5 hour trip. It shut down and rebooted about halfway there. On the way back the same thing happened but it could never find the satellites again ("waiting for a valid gps signal"). Calling product support resulted in a 30 minute wait.
Summary: After so much fuss about TomTom Live features and the Live Traffic buff as well as the "Google" search; these are deceiving marketing practices which should not used; much less do not allow these announcements to drag into buying this unit. The screen is so small for tying it becomes a frustration every time you try to do this. Nothing beats Magellan with their "smart" typing; two letter; "boom" the suggestion is right in front of you!
Summary: Right on the box, the unit indicates it says street names. We got it home, downloaded the latest maps from Tomtom etc. and then put it through the test.... NO STREET NAMES... Just turn left and turn right. Went through the laborious task of trying to contact by email... Had to read thru screens to make sure answer wasn't on screen then was given opportunity to send message to tech support. Received email back from them.. informing me I had to provide more details etc..
