Summary: My TomTom XL340 worked like a champ for three years until a software update during the week of May 13, 2013. Since then, the device is inoperable. I called tech support, and all they said was to try reformatting it. When that didn't work despite trying different computers and cables, all Tom Tom would offer was a 20% discount on a new device that was still cheaper through Amazon. Thanks, but no thanks, TomTom.
Summary: Bought this for my gf cuz it was a STEAL b4 Christmas and Tom-Tom is a respected name in GPS. She was very excited to use it but unfortunately she ran into several issues. Unplugging the charger from the back of the unit is very difficult. I could do it, but she wouldn't for risk of breaking a nail or hurting her finger. It is pretty tough to remove. After only a couple uses, she couldn't get the unit to find a signal...for over an hour!
Summary: I bought this product 2 days ago at Costco. The ad gave me an impression that the item speaks street names (it does not). I tried it for 24 hours to several different destinations: it does not give the most practical and easy road instructions. Also, mounting apparatus is terrible, it does not hold onto any surface. I had tried a Garmin 265WT before on a rental car, all the above mentioned issues either did not exist or were much better.
Summary: Initially I thought it would work great, until I connected it to the computer to register and link to TomTom HOME. It informed me that a new map was available and asked if I would like to download it. I did, except there was near the end it said there was an error downloading and then the device kept saying no maps available. I tried multiple fixes, but nothing seemed to work.
Summary: From some of the other descriptions on amazon, I assumed this device had spoken street names. This one is only spoken instructions. The description/name I typed into the search was one for a gps model for spoken street names. Did not realize this until I was sarted using it. Not sure I can return it now.
