Summary: I bought this one for another car but its touch screen stops responding in less than 6 months. A piece of junk. My 4-year-old Garmin Street Pilot c330 is still working well. Don't Tom Tom any more.
Summary: We bought an XL340S from Costco in July of '09, and first used it seriously for a trip to Taos, NM. It got us to Taos okay, but took us a mile past our destination to open fields on both sides of the road. It never could seem to find a street address that was even remotely close to where we wanted to be. Another time I used it to see if it could get me to a small town in SE Montana, and it sent me off on a road that eventually ended up being a non-all weather dirt road.
Summary: I attempted to download a new map and computer went crazy. Time for downloading jumped from 2 hours to 13 hours. Afterwards GPS lost all stored info. Discussed with their customer support and they were no help. Sent it back and bought a Garmin. It works great. Don't waste your time with a Tom Tom.
Summary: The people who review this item with 5 stars may be the people selling them! Always back it up using tomtom home (worst program ever). Take about 1 hour to back up, and about 2 hours to restore. Needs to backed up because if it gets stuck you will have to format it, and you will have to pay for maps. Constantly won't turn on or off, sometimes it gets stuck while turning on. The computer won't recognize it while it is plugged in, neither will TomTom home.
Summary: I purchased this unit to replace another GPS I have and did not wish to pay a subscription price to get a new map with a recently opened bridge which I use. The other manufacturer could not even tell me if the bridge was in their latest map update, so I purchased the TomTom hoping I might get the new bridge in their maps. When it arrived, it worked fine right out of the box but did not even have my home location on it's map.
