I've used this machine for 3 vacations and have been very happy with it. The re-calculation of route if a turn is missed has not been an issue with me. I like the fact that I can add my own 3rd party POIs easily. The newer Tomtom models have had this feature killed by Tomtom. I update the machine regularly with the Tomtom Home program which does a very good job. Read more
TomTom’s XL 340 and XL 340S feature a larger 4.3 inch widescreen for easier viewing of navigation information compared to smaller screen navigators. The touchscreen has a WQVGA (480 x 272 pixels) resolution. Other headline features of the 340 models are the advanced route calculation of TomTom’s IQ Routes Technology and the assistance provided to drivers at intersections by TomTom’s Advanced Lane Guidance. I have had a GPS unit for a while now, so I thought I better check out one of the more recent devices to come on the market. I have had this TomTom 340 for a year and a half so far, which was initially purchased to replace an outdated Garmin. I just cannot recommend this to anyone. The coverage is pretty good, though I did not have good coverage of highways when travelling to Houston. I do like the UI but its just slow. The HOME update process is beleaguered and outdated and tends to erase its own maps when trying to update on TomTom Home. Read more or see product
The suction cup mounting works great, with one caveat. I was mounting the GPS, then readjusting the hinge mount. I was then having the GPS fall off the windshield 5 minutes later. I realized that I was weakening the seal in the readjustment. So, after making the last adjustments, I unlocked the vacuum seal, then relocked it. Never a problem after doing that. I drove a Penske truck 400 miles, with major vibration without issues. Read more
The item arrived very fast. This was a Christmas gift for our daughter so we haven't used it yet. I'm sure it will be fine. We have one like it and we love ours. Read more
