Summary: I bought this Tom Tom for my sister as a gift. It came with all the seals broken on the packaging. When she contacted the vendor they said this was normal that they checked out all of their products before shipping. This seemed odd, but she accepted it and began using her GPS. Then she discovered the car charger would not charge the unit. On a drive of 10 hours the unit did not fully charge and could not be used the next day without plugging in.
Summary: We purchased our via1530 at Costco a couple years ago and for about 2 months things went fine. then suddenly we could not get a signal no matter where we were. This prompted a 2 hour call with a techie from TomTom walking us through some updates because he said their satellites were experiencing difficulties. He was able to get us back up BUT the problem we've had ever since is that only about 2% of the time we can enter a new destination address.
Summary: Have used this product about 2 years now. Although this product works, it has many design/manufacturing problems: 1. The touch screen does not work accurately. This is especially true when using it on a hot day. You have to press multiple times to get it to register. Then it may or may not have registered the touch press accurately. Sometimes you have to press really hard. Very, very frustrating. 2. The device processor is very slow.
Summary: The free "updates" take hours (yes, overnight!) to "download" and then get error message on screen "NO MAPS FOUND" --- I did this about a year ago, repeatedly, and called useless Tech Support. After repeated tries on the device (tech support basicly said to put it in garbage) it booted and ran. Now in Jun 2013 planning travel and went to update. What was I thinking?
Lifetime maps - if you can get it to update. Just stay away.

Summary: I have spent at least 20 hours trying to get this GPS to update correctly. I have called their customer service - which is in Mexico - and spent hours troubleshooting with them, been sent a replacement product, and all to no avail. The software has been installed and re-installed, computer booted and re-booted. I have tried this with three different PCs and 3 different operating systems.
Summary: I bought this unit at Costco. It's not that the unit doesn't work that get's me; TomTom clearly is disinterested in its customers. TomTom's customer service and website does not work; if you think you're crazy, you are not! Over an hour to speak with a supervisor before you hang up? Loss of gps signal, absurd download time, incompatible updates?i I believed TomTom to be a grass-roots company, ha.
Summary: this is my 2nd TomTom and I am not buying any more of their junk. after the update, this unit reboots randomly on its order while i am driving. My previous TomTom Live did the same thing after about a year and could never get it fixed. The menu and features are better than other manufacturers but if the hardware is unstable, who cares. I am using my Ipad and Iphone with WAZE and I have no problems.
