Summary: I have owned this model for more than a year and would not recommend it to others. I have never owned another brand so I can't compare features and past experiences but I have encountered many of the same frustrations reported here in other reviews. I also find the map updating tedious and the TomTom community "My Drive" updates annoying.
Extremely disappointed in TomTom customer service & the map update.

Summary: I purchased a TomTom Via 1530 / 1535 with the lifetime map upgrade about three years ago. I was happy with the unit until I recently tried to use the map upgrade. After downloading all of the upgrades, my devise now has a message “Something Has Gone Wrong” and “No Maps Found”. I have been trying all the online instructions for 5 days now & contacted 3 TomTom support representatives by phone three times now.
Summary: There are certain operational issues but most if not all have already been addressed here. The most frustrating, time consuming and un-intuitive aspect of owning this thing is updating the software (including maps). I have spent hours updating and then having to start over. Certainly not worth it. On occasion the device will say to turn in the wrong direction which can lead one to circumnavigate an entire city to get to a destination that was nearby.
Summary: I did the exact same thing as user "Todd" just did yesterday (3/10/14) with our TomTom Via 1530 ....I updated it using the MyDrive Connect like I always do and the unit is now useless.....it only displays the "no maps found" screen and does nothing else! I've searched the Internet like crazy, including the TomTom web site (worthless, IMO), and tried different "solutions" that have done nothing to fix this.
Summary: I am more than pleased with the Tom Tom purchase. This is our second Tom Tom GPS and the first one lasted more than five years before it started to slow down and we had some trouble starting it. This second GPS is about a third the coast of the first and the features are much better.
Summary: I bought this Tom Tom for my sister as a gift. It came with all the seals broken on the packaging. When she contacted the vendor they said this was normal that they checked out all of their products before shipping. This seemed odd, but she accepted it and began using her GPS. Then she discovered the car charger would not charge the unit. On a drive of 10 hours the unit did not fully charge and could not be used the next day without plugging in.
Summary: We purchased our via1530 at Costco a couple years ago and for about 2 months things went fine. then suddenly we could not get a signal no matter where we were. This prompted a 2 hour call with a techie from TomTom walking us through some updates because he said their satellites were experiencing difficulties. He was able to get us back up BUT the problem we've had ever since is that only about 2% of the time we can enter a new destination address.
