Why did TOM TOM discontunue lifetime map up dates???
14 September 2014
Summary: so why have the lifetime map updates been discontinued just after I have bought it. There should be warnings in advance of purchase in case it makes a difference but then that will be why there are no warnings at point of purchase.!!!!!
Summary: I initially thought that the big display was too cluttered but quickly got used to the various symbols etc. I particularly like the effective lane directions on the motorways. However, a major down-side if the slowness of its calculations, even allowing for limited satellite coverage. It can be painfully slow. Downloading the free map upgrades takes forever and is best left for a quiet time when you have nothing else to do!
Summary: I bought this because I could not get Eurpe on my One XL I was impressed by how much this was an advance on the One XL. The software has improved a lot, and it covers GB and all of Europe easily. I added TDS RDS and that is very useful.

Summary: Disregard the title. About the satnav: Maps are updated once every 3 months, and having a lifetime update included is just pure awesome. I have friends and colleagues who have older satnavs (TomTom and other manufacturers) with 5-6 year old maps, and probably all of them had trouble with them at one point or another (usually missing addresses or roads).
Summary: This is really a very high-quality navigator at a very good price indeed. Sometimes it can take a little too long to get started, but not a big deal. Sometimes its suggestions for which roads to take can lead to surprises, as when we were in Italy and it suggested tiny, step roads through little hill villages rather than the easy way around. Well, use common sense: it's OK for friends to disagree.
Plug&play, fairly easy to use, some shortcomings, useless voice control; review inc. website & cust.svcs.

Summary: SUMMARY (below REVIEW/TIPS/PRICE) Mixed experience getting started, had to ring TomTom, but fairly easy, good for my first sat.nav. Unclear and even incorrect road-navigation occasionally. A few features need improving or occasionally fail (silent at a major junction). Don't buy for the voice control as it mostly doesn't understand you. REVIEW: POSITIVES: A. When the screen's crowded e.g. a complicated junction plus menu buttons, it's worth having the larger 5" screen.
