Tragic and very frustrating - TomTom have managed to go backwards!

  • Summary: I used to own a TomTom classic XL until some toe rag nicked it. I went for the TomTom Start 25 for the free life time maps. The SatNav works fine for navigation. The problems unfortunately are many 1. It took me 2 hours trying to get the SatNav to connect via my computer windows 7 machine and the TomTom website - in the end I had to call the tomtom call centre where I was instruction to delete files, add files, restart the computer, change browser, start in private mode...

Disappointed

  • Summary: I loved my original tom tom but I felt I needed to update. The new one had a minor fault where the speedometer was well out ( not just a few mph, which you'd expect). I should have sent it back straight away but I needed to use it. Now after just a few uses the device will not turn on at all! I'm very disappointed and I'm now outside the 30 day window for easy returns.

Negative masterpiece of website design

  • Summary: Hard to overstate just how appalling the website interface for setting this up really is. For reference I have almost 30 years IT experience managing custom software in the media industry. I had the device for 90 minutes before returning it. The online registration and updater procedures in the browser are a masterpiece of ambiguity and misdirection which I can't be bothered to describe.

Very disappointing

  • Summary: Not good. Arrived on time but has not worked properly and as I type this review I am about to return it. The "no maps found" problem is a problem that anyone can find out about by searching that problem in any search engine. The volume and consistency of the blogs about the "no maps found" problem speak for themselves. This should be a high tech, problem solving device working with ease. Sadly I did not find it so.

  • Summary: Bought to replace ageing TomTom 1, but wish I had not bothered. The interface is sluggish and outdated, it takes typically 10 to 15 minutes to acquire satellites when turned on and loses them 3 to 4 times during a journey forcing unscheduled stops to wait for it to catch up.

I would not buy again

  • Summary: I spent days trying to get this to link on my computer so that I could get the map updates. Forum could not help and customer support takes days by email and then no help. You have to be a computer genius with latest technology for this and I though I had simply bought a sat nav for the car! When after several hours of work I finally did get it linked I found that updates for cameras, one promised as free, was said to have timed out.

Won't update the speed cameras

  • Summary: I bought this to replace an old TomTom One as the maps were out of date. After initially being pleased I have all the road in need I noticed the cameras were chronically out of date (15th Nov 2012) so whilst the unit says its up to date it isn't. I have written to TomTom to report the issue and they just keep saying it up to date. Really poor customer service from them.
