Summary: I love this thing!! My husband says I can get lost in a phone booth! WELL NO MORE!! I made it over an hour away today in a new city and had no trouble at all! It is EASY to use and small enough that it does not get in the way!! I just have to remember to lock my car so no one steals it! Best early mother's day gift ever!!

Summary: I had previously owned the 3.5 inch screen TomTom One 130. It worked great but the downside was that you had to purchare USA map updates for $79.95 a year which includes four quarterly updates. That becomes very expensive over time. Then I found the TomTom VIA 1400M with a larger 4.3 inch screen and FREE LIFETIME MAPS for just $54.95. That was quite a bargan that I just couldn't pass up.
Summary: I purchased the Tomtom Via 1400 while in language school in France. It served us well in a car trip through northern Italy. On returning to the USA I purchased a North American map set on the Tomtom website to use for the 10-weeks we would be here before heading to our mission in Burkina Faso west Africa. All of their tech support could not free up space by removing the Europe map in order to load the NA map.
Summary: I was replacing a 3 year old TomTom XXL as buying this unit on sale was about the same as getting new maps. This unit has lifetime maps. What I say here may be of most help to those who are also replacing an older unit. Pro's: * Suction cup mount is now integral with unit and folds flush for easy storage. The cup works easily and holds well * The screen, though smaller than my old unit, is higher resolution and easier to read * Satellite pick-up is faster.
Great product. Get you where you want to go Butttttttttttttttttttt.........

Summary: This is a pretty neat Tom Tom. After all, I am just an old cuntry boy, AKA "Old Fart", and do not look for many bells and whistles in a product. Just for it to get me from point A to point B, beyond and back home. This Tom Tom will take you way out in the country and other places before going to the location you want it to go but it will get you there. Guess I do need to keep the old handy dandy Map in my vehicle to map the way as well as use this thing.
Conclusion: As an entry level SatNav the TomTom Start 20 is a good device and a reasonable performer. Bearing in mind that it is an entry level device then the missing features are not critical to the targeted market. If you want a device that you can use out of the box and never take near a computer then this could be the SatNav you are looking for. It has the strength and pedigree of the TomTom brand.
Summary: I had to put this to the test straight away as I was driving to the south of France the day after I bought it , didn't even have time to upload any new maps so it literally went straight from the box onto tbe car windscreen. It worked well, easy to set up whilst waiting for the channel tunnel. Has performed well since then better than my previous one.
