Summary: I paid a lot of money for this unit (over $600) and it worked fine until TomTom had me update the firmware. The firmware update erased all maps and would no longer download the new maps. I called TomTom -- they wouldn't fix it, even though it was their firmware update which screwed up my unit. The best they would offer me was a $10 discount on the purchase of a new unit. GIVE ME A BREAK. I switched to Garmin, a much better unit with much better customer support.
Summary: my tom-tom rider 2nd edition, is now just over 2 years old. it worked ok while it worked, not the best buy not the worst, that being said, I highly recommend not buying a tom-tom.... They have a strict one year warranty, when that runs out you are S.O.L. and they have discontinued service and support on the rider2nd edition.
Summary: Illegible in daylight. Gave it away to a friend who subsequently threw it in the garbage. Replaced it with a Garmin Zumo, which works fine. It is inconceivable to me that this is the second version of this product and they never addressed a trivial issue like illegibility in daylight. This product is not suitable for motorcycles.
Summary: Every year I waste 2 days talking with Tom Tom trying to get this device working or updated. Tom Tom support make it as difficult as possible to contact them. If eventually find the phone number, to use the phone to contact them, the number they provide is the equivalent of a long distance call - expensive and they do not answer your call for hours. If you use email to contact them it takes 48hours to get an answer and about I month to get to the bottom of the problem.
Summary: The Tomtom Rider 2 is a good motorcycle & general use GPS device. My problem is poor customer service from Tomtom. My Rider 2 unit crashed during a map upgrade download. It worked fine until then. Tomtom support won`t do anything to help me. Prospective purchasers should be aware that they are unlikely to get help after any warranty period has expired, even if the problem is not their creation.
Summary: I got 2 Tomtom: Rider and Rider 2. The 1st one , I had a problem with the cradle (no electricity to charge the gps) on my bike but it was impossible to replace it because it wasn't available any more. I got another Tomtom, the Rider 2. I got the same problem with the cradle (I think it is not well protected against water or humidity) so after 3 hours on your bike, the battery in gps is dead, you have to recharge it! Not very useful! Customer service or Support Tomtom!
Why I tossed my Tom Tom Rider in the trash last week.

Summary: I am leaving Tom Tom's world forever! I had a Tom Tom Rider #1 1) no customer support... ever... 2) the Mac OS software never worked correctly - the sim mode never was operable, the PC version was only slightly better. 3) I bought an upgraded map membership - supposed lower price on upgrades. I was able to get one upgrade, then the remainder upgrades didn't work.
Summary: I own two TomTom's one the Go930 and the other Rider 2 When owning different TomTom's you must register them with different email addresses You cannot combine them into one account. If you purchase a map update it is for only one gps cannot use the map update on both Cannot import Goggle maps into TomTom's it will accept destination points and find the fastest route for you but it does not give you the ability to take back roads of a planed route from Goggle Maps There...
Summary: The GPS works fine. I have been using it for over a year with no problems. The cradle, however is the weak link. Through searching the internet I have found many people with the same problem. The cradle/dock does not charge the unit anymore, and there are NO replacement parts for this unit from Tom Tom or anywhere else in the United States. There are some in the UK, but I have not been able to find one for myself yet.
Summary: It works sometimes, needs frequent reboots and the maps are way out of date even after being updated. Worst of all, TomTom will no longer sell accessories for this unit so if you want a GPS on two or more bikes you need to buy two or more GPS's instead of buying an extra mounting kit. I should have bought the Garmin but I I went cheap and paid the price after all.
