Summary: Comments about TomTom ONE XL Automobile Navigator: For planning trips I recommend a computer and a web map. The problem I had with this isn't general design - I picked up the controls within seconds of touching a GPS for the first time. But it makes too many mistakes for my tastes.
Pros: Acquires Satellites Quickly, Compact, Easy Menus, Easy To Read, Easy To Set Up, Simple Controls
Summary: I purchased this product about a week ago and when it came it was messed up from the start, the maps were all screwed up and it permenantly had me located in Guam! Im in Texas. I spent over two and a half hours on the phone with these people trying to get it working with no success.
Summary: The TOMTOM ONE XL would be OK if it came with an up-dated map but it dosn't, you can download one free from tomtom's website but everybody dosen't have highspeed internet and dialup takes 70+ hours. I don't think so! It needs an update badly. alot of missing information.
Pros: Acquires Satellites Quickly, Compact, Easy To Read, Large Screen, Reliable Performance
Summary: This could be a nice product if it weren't for the lousy mapping information. The wide screen is nice, menu controls are O.K., audio instructions are clear. The point-of-interest information, however, is inaccurate to the point of being useless.
Summary: I've had Garmin 2610 for a couple of years which I bought refurbished for about the same price as a brand new One XL. 2610 (it can be found for a lot less than ONE XL) is a "reference" GPS for this review. ONE XL Pros: 1. Lightning fast GPS lock 2. 3D map 3. Bluetooth (but no handsfree) 4.
Summary: Although the TomTom One XL does what it is supposed to, do not look for any technical support from TomTom. Their support agents are either completely unfamiliar with this product, or are extremely rude and condesending.
Summary: I can't fault the Tomtom for ease of use - pick it up out of the box and you'll find it completely intuitive to set destinations both by postcode or street name, and get going. I find it gives me pretty good instructions - occasionally the voice direction comes in a bit late but you can get better...
