TomTom ONE XL S Review

Digitaltrends
15 May 2008
  • Conclusion: The ONE XL S offers very solid navigational performance at a reasonable price point. It’s easy to configure and use, and we imagine most users would be able to be up and running in just a few minutes, which is great. We like the text-to-speech feature and the Map Share too, but we especially enjoyed all the free downloads and updates.
  • Pros: Big screen; text-to-speech; Map Share; great downloads and add-ons
  • Cons: Setting up text-to-speech is flawed; can't totally customize POIs

TomTom ONE XL S Review

Digitaltrends
15 May 2008
  • Excerpt: The TomTom ONE XL has a lot to offer for a very reasonable price. The TomTom XL S is the company’s midrange GPS unit, and offers the same core functionality as the more expensive models while offering a few less features and a reduced price. It includes maps of the US and Canada, includes text-to-speech functionality for reading street names aloud, and offers a large database of Points of Interest as well.
  • Pros: Big screen; text-to-speech; Map Share; great downloads and add-ons
  • Cons: Setting up text-to-speech is flawed; can't totally customize POIs

TomTom ONE XLS: High-end Features at a Budget Price

About.com
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: When people ask me for advice on which in-car GPS to buy, I ask them about their needs, but I always recommend that they spend enough to get true text-to-speech directions. Text-to-speech means that you will hear the actual names of the streets (or highway route numbers) as directions are given, rather than simply when to turn. It's: "turn right on Mulberry Lane, one quarter mile" versus "turn right, one quarter mile.
  • Pros: Text-to-speech at a budget price., Wide screen., Nice look and solid construction.
  • Cons: No automatic day-night mode., No automatic on-off with car ignition.

TomTom ONE XL-S review

GPS Tracklog
10 November 2007
  • Excerpt: The TomTom ONE XL-S , updates the TomTom ONE XL , adding text-to-speech to its feature set. That way, you’ll get “turn left on Oak Street in 500 feet” rather than just “turn left in 500 feet.” It also includes Map Share , though that is also available on the ONE XL as a free upgrade .
