The TomTom ONE XL has a lot to offer for a very reasonable price. The TomTom XL S is the company’s midrange GPS unit, and offers the same core functionality as the more expensive models while offering a few less features and a reduced price. It includes maps of the US and Canada, includes text-to-speech functionality for reading street names aloud, and offers a large database of Points of Interest as well. Read more

    • Big screen; text-to-speech; Map Share; great downloads and add-ons
    • Setting up text-to-speech is flawed; can't totally customize POIs

Tweet UPDATE: This model has been discontinued. For a list of current TomTom models and their features, please see our TomTom comparison chart . The TomTom ONE XL-S , updates the TomTom ONE XL , adding text-to-speech to its feature set. That way, you’ll get “turn left on Oak Street in 500 feet” rather than just “turn left in 500 feet.” It also includes Map Share , though that is also available on the ONE XL as a free upgrade . When people ask me for advice on which in-car GPS to buy, I ask them about their needs, but I always recommend that they spend enough to get true text-to-speech directions. Read more

The new TomTom ONE XL.S has the same specification as the popular 4.3 inch wide screen TomTom ONE XL with the addition of text-to-speech technology allowing street names to be announced as part of turn-by-turn navigation directions. A large screen provides a larger, easier to see navigation interface for drivers. The navigator itself is slim and lightweight for easy transfer between cars. Read more

Missing Attachment As it stands right now, based on sales in not only the United States, but globally, Garmin has the lead in Global Positioning Systems (GPS). However, after taking a close look at the Tom-Tom One XL-S Portable GPS unit, the image in Garmin?s rear view mirror is no doubt growing larger by the minute. It isn?t any wonder considering this unit offers more features that Garmin?s Nuvi 200. Read more

It does not work in new developments. Adding new street (to modify the map) is not well understood. Street name comes almost at the intersection. It should be at least couple of hundred feets before. After missing a street it does not say something (e.g. recalculating) to understand the mistake. It just gives the next best option. Also the retailer's ad in internet searching, I looked at, was misleading. It referred the model as XL-S 300. Read more

Comments about TomTom ONE XL-S Automobile Navigator: While on a tour one truck had this, the other didn't. While mostly good, it made enough mistakes for it to earn the nickname Dum Dum. For example the time it said I was at a restaurant when I was parked in front of an empty field. Read more
