Summary: I am very disappointed in the TomTom One 3rd Edition. The maps and icons are ugly and jagged. The routes in some areas put you MILES and MILES out of your way or in some cases, send you the wrong way on a ONE WAY or want you to do something equally dangerous. One heavily advertised feature of the One, is its ability to tell you about what time you will arrive. The arrival times are GROSSLY inaccurate.
Summary: I bought this one for my daughter's 16th birthday so she could find her way home. I should have stayed with what I already have. My Garmin works great but the Tom Tom is the worst I have ever seen. While driving down the road, it starts alarming and saying you on the wrong side of the road. The routing takes you completely out of the way. It also loses synch routinely.
Summary: My unit arrived just before heading out for our Christmas travels and I used it side-by-side with my older Garmin 2610. Hardly a fair comparison given the price difference, but the TomTom was great - I'm impressed, particularly with the signal acquisition time (very, very quick). But unfortunately, I get the white screen of death. The unit won't warm start and requires a reset each and every time.
Summary: I bought 3 of these one for my wife, my assistant and myself. One works great and we are very pleased. The other two the Item need to be reset each time you turn it on and off. Called Tech support at Tom Tom. We Formatted the units reloaded the software and still has the same issue. The tech support at Tom Tom are Operators who have no idea what they are doing and have to put you on hold for 5 minutes at a time while they ask the one person on staff what to do.
TomTom suffers from poor engineering, clumsy POI selection
A Boston College Eagle, Amazon
12 December 2007
Summary: I bought my TomTom from Amazon for $125 on Black Friday. As a result, I really tried to appreciate the GPS for its great value. Unfortunately, despite the bargain pricing, I decided to return it to Amazon. TomTom uses Tele Atlas maps, which are less accurate/comprehensive than Magellan and Garmin's NAVTEQ (let's just say there's a reason why Google Maps chose NAVTEQ over Tele Atlas). TomTom's routing software is poor.
Summary: Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man bekanntlich nicht ins Maul.
