TomTom GO (Dash-Tops)

PC Magazine
22 April 2008
  • Excerpt: The TomTom GO is the way to go. This compact dash-top unit has a wonderful interface (touch screen, no keys), few submenus, superb maps (the underlying data comes from Tele Atlas, the underdog to market leader Navteq), and even decent sound quality from the spoken directions.

Maps-GPS-Info.com
15 February 2005
  • Conclusion: The designers of this unit clearly thought out much of the operation so that the average consumer has to do very little set up and is able to easily use it. It would, however, be somewhat of a disappointment to a "techie" person as it is lacking features such as the ability to tell it to route...
  • Pros: Point of interest data incomplete, Lacking certain functionality such as shortest/fastest routing and ability to navigate by longitude/latitude, No ability to view maps or create routes on the PC
  • Cons: Excellent audio and video quality, Simple to operate, Multiple map region choices

Pocket Lint

  • Conclusion: On paper the TomTom Go seems to have it all and for the moments that it did work in our tests we were very impressed, but working for moments isn't really good enough, hence our disappointment.
  • Pros: swap out map SD cards, clear maps
  • Cons: screen gets dirty, brightness poor in sunlight
