Summary: First, I have to clarify that the TomTom GoLive 1535M is an excellent value and offers quite a few upgrades. The voice command function is one of my favorites and makes inputting the destinations a snap. However, I have twice purchased refurbished units that do not work. I was told on the last purchase to hold the power button down for up to a few minutes. The display did come up, but only lasted for about 2 days before shutting down again.
Not user freindly, basic functions too hard to access, get a Garmin
25 February 2014
Summary: Long story short, this GPS is just too cumbersome to use while on the fly. Basic functions that need to be accessed quickly are hidden several menus deep in completely counter-intuitive places. I owned an entry-level Garmin from 2008, which was far better than this "modern", high end TomTom. If you don't enter an address exactly correct, the 1535 will not find it at all.
Summary: Continuous problems. Would not update, would not pick up satellites, would continually drop satellite and then start over. Called TomTom service and the technical service was not understandable and when they tried to service the unit they failed. They were supposed to call back on the final test and never returned my call. We have purchased TomTom units over the past 10 years but never again. Told all my contractors and employees not to bother with TomTom.
Summary: Live services failed on December 31, 2013. It is now January 10th and I still have no live services. I have been on the phone, off and on, with TomTom since Jan 2nd, to no avail. I have to keep calling THEM because they promise to call me back and I never hear from them. When I do, they keep having me to do the EXACT SAME THING: step outside in the cold, do a factory reset and a soft reset. Nothing. Each. And. Every. Time. NOTHING!
Summary: This item is a complete waste of time. I've been using Tomtom products for years and when my last one gave up the ghost this was my replacement choice...What a mistake! My main problem: the live services could not connect, when you buy a unit mainly for the traffic function it should work this one doesn't. The other problem was with customer service to address this problem.
Excerpt: We've tried several brands but always go back to Tom Tom for both my wife and I. We don't even use the one built into the car. Road repairs, traffic problems are all there and free updates for life. We bought this one because it cost too much to update an older model. We tried a Garmin because it was in stock but took it back and ordered this one.
Pros: Acquires Satellites Quickly, Compact, Easy Menus, Easy To Read, Easy To Set Up, Large Screen, Reliable Performance, Simple Controls
