Summary: First, I have to clarify that the TomTom GoLive 1535M is an excellent value and offers quite a few upgrades. The voice command function is one of my favorites and makes inputting the destinations a snap. However, I have twice purchased refurbished units that do not work. I was told on the last purchase to hold the power button down for up to a few minutes. The display did come up, but only lasted for about 2 days before shutting down again.
Summary: I am very pleased with this gps unit. It has a micro SD port built it that I can install my maps onto, unlike my previous TomTom unit that I can no longer use because all I can update to now because it no longer has enough memory, is region maps which is pretty much worthless and not what I purchased it for and paid for regarding USA, Mexico and Canada maps.
Not user freindly, basic functions too hard to access, get a Garmin
25 February 2014
Summary: Long story short, this GPS is just too cumbersome to use while on the fly. Basic functions that need to be accessed quickly are hidden several menus deep in completely counter-intuitive places. I owned an entry-level Garmin from 2008, which was far better than this "modern", high end TomTom. If you don't enter an address exactly correct, the 1535 will not find it at all.
Summary: Continuous problems. Would not update, would not pick up satellites, would continually drop satellite and then start over. Called TomTom service and the technical service was not understandable and when they tried to service the unit they failed. They were supposed to call back on the final test and never returned my call. We have purchased TomTom units over the past 10 years but never again. Told all my contractors and employees not to bother with TomTom.
Summary: Live services failed on December 31, 2013. It is now January 10th and I still have no live services. I have been on the phone, off and on, with TomTom since Jan 2nd, to no avail. I have to keep calling THEM because they promise to call me back and I never hear from them. When I do, they keep having me to do the EXACT SAME THING: step outside in the cold, do a factory reset and a soft reset. Nothing. Each. And. Every. Time. NOTHING!
Summary: This is a good and capable gps. But buyers beware though! The LIVE services that TomTom is trumpeting will only work, I repeat, only work, in the country or place where the gps was bought. For example, I live in Canada and so I bought the gps in Canada. I bought the gps because I go to the US several times a month, and I could use the LIVE services, ii.e. TripAdviser, Fuel Prices, Yelp, Google, etc.
