Not sure if Tom Toms are as good as they are supposed to be
24 February 2014
Summary: Tom Toms are a bit of an enigma nowadays. I use my Tom Tom a lot and it does what it's supposed to do - hence it's OK. But nowadays GPS devices are so common that you wonder why Tom Tom takes so long to lock on to satellites. My iPhone or Sky Caddie lock on to satellites almost instantaneously; the Tom Tom takes minutes. Downloading new maps is so clunky that you wonder what the software team have done.
Summary: It's well build. HDTraffic is excellent - which is the main reason I've bought this little device ..but Amazon description is misleading. It does not have 3 years of Live services. It does have 3 years of HD Traffic and only 6months Speed Cameras which costs a 25£ a year so think twice. Beacause full Live services costs 50£ per year and you can't buy HD Traffic alone. You can have TomTom GO 5000 for 260£ with Livetime HDTraffic..
Summary: The sat-nav itself is great; the lower rating is down to the missing in car charger, a quite essential part of the product. Very disappointed I had to order one separately. There was a USB charger for computer but the windscreen mount had a different connection. Nothing to advise this was the case either.
Summary: Using the equipment is fine but the time it is connected to the website for updates, etc. is most irritating. Nothing is simple. It requires a lot of patience and messing around to get things to download properly.
Summary: It seems to work OK. Currently it is selecting some local routes that do not appear to make a lot of sense but that could just be down to the software selecting what it thinks will be the quickest route - so still evaluating that aspect. When compared with my previous TomTom, I was disappointed with the lack of accessories included - not even a case ! All had to be purchased as extras. I think that it is on the pricey side but it does have lifetime map updates.
Summary: Unit works ok, the access screen is not the same as the 750 series, the numerics are not on the same screen as the alpha which means it takes more time to load each post code, this was not obvious when I was reviewing the item, also google maps is not available as part of the package, I thought it must be part of the on-line package but when I purchased that package again it wasnt included, so I now have to purchase it separately, could and should have been clearer at...
Excellent unit until it goes wrong and needs to be replaced under warranty

Summary: This is a very good Sat Nav, however it has 2 problems. 1. Battey Life and charging. 2. TomTom Warranty replacement. Be very carefull. I am currently experiencing an on-going problem with customer services with regards to my Go Live 1005 World unit. It was sent for repair under warrantee over the Christmas period and a new replacement unit was sent. Unfortunately the replacement unit was the (Europe) version and not what was purchased (World).
