Summary: Went TomTom as the Garmin we had before had a really bad search facility. Indeed, the TomTom has a great search, and the Live information is very useful at busy times. BUT, battery packed in *just* out of warranty, which is extremely annoying and totally avoidable. I've read around and loads of people have the same problem.
Summary: The new range of Tom Tom's now connect as a 'device' rather than an external drive. I couldn't get this to connect so Live services and the map updates couldn't be used, as a result ive returned this product. After speaking to Garmin theirs still connects as an external drive, so I have just ordered a lifetime maps & lifetime digital traffic from a different supplier. Other than that the unit is sleek, good graphics hence the two stars. otherwise its useless to me.
Summary: I've had this model for 2 years now, which means several things:- 1. I seem to be one of the lucky ones - ie It still works! 2. I know it (and TomTom) pretty well. 3. I must like it or I would have given up by now! All those things are true. It has been plagued with minor annoyances (like locking up for 5 mins in traffic) and a dodgy battery. I hate speaking to Tomtom with any problems, as they have the worst technical support and customer service I've come across!
Summary: Think carefully before you buy this top of the range unit from TomTom. It does not have Itenary planning, so if you are used to use that, forget this unit as you can only create a route via 3 stops. If you do not use the itenary planning, it is great unit, fast response but I had to return it and replace it with the cheaper Garmin as I need the itenary planning.
Summary: I bought this product as a replacement for the Tom Tom 920 which I have given to my wife. The 920 was a splendid device with masses of spare memory. It operated quickly and did the job effectively. First of all the good points of the TT1005. The new design of stand using a magnet is excellent. Its quick and easy to use. The screen is nice and large which enables bigger characters to be used so less mistakes are likely to be made when information is input to the device.
Summary: I bought the 1005 (world maps),bought in UK, so that I had live services when I was in the UK for a month, the experience was great (latest maps updated without a fault)- for just over two weeks, then I updated, as requested,Services disappeared, 'just a wait a moment' and spinning wheel until it timed out with 'try again later' again and again.
