  • Summary: I was gifted a new TomTom Go 740 live for Christmas 2009. On a recent trip to Oregon from Texas it started to shut off for no apparent reason. Was told by TomTom support that since I did not have a receipt for the gifted unit that the warranty was only good from the date of manufacture. So I was SOL.

Not Impressed

  • Summary: I received my TOMTOM GO 740 LIVE, on the 26/07/09. One of the main reasons I bought the GO 740 LIVE, was to get the live services. From day one the live services have never worked. After several phone calls and Emails to TOMTOM, the live services are still not working. To say I am not impressed would be an under statement.

Dont bother with LIVE services

  • Summary: Where do I start....well I guess firstly you need to know that the three month free LIVE updates is NOT free. You have to subscribe to the service and an intial payment of £7.99 is immediately take from your card. Then, they will only take 30 days notice after your NEXT payment before they will accept your request to terminate. So your three month FREE subscription actually costs you a minimum of £14.98, which while this is not a huge amount, its certainly not free.

Poor customer support

  • Summary: This is my second Tom Tom, having previously owned a Go 700. The product itself is very good, especially lane guidance and I would probably give it 4 stars. However, the first 740 rattled in the bracket. Amazon replaced without question and I can't fault Amazon at all. Just hope you never have to contact the automatons at Tom Tom themselves for assistance, the computer will always say no. It was enough to put me off the brand for good!

Premature Live Feature

  • Summary: Live services haven't worked since I got it and thier tech support is less than usless. They dodn't even know what the icons look like in the new version of TomTom Home. Reseting the device on thier servers is thier answer to everything. Anyway my device thinks it in some other country as far as I can tell from the error messages. Searching on the net has produces loads of theories on what's going on here from other afflicted users but no fixes!

  • Summary: I have had my TomTom for 1 year now (730 not 740) and have to say it has been a most disappointing experience. For the previous 3-4 years I owned a Navman Satnav system and was reasonably happy with it. When it came time to renew the maps I decided to look at what other Satnav systems were available. On looking around I decided the TomTom devices had a better user interface and selected the 730 as being the most appropriate for me.

  • Summary: Ich habe mir dieses Gerät für europaweite Unternehmungen gekauft und muss sagen dass es sein Geld nicht wert ist. Woher der TomTom Hype kommt kann ich mir nicht erklären. Die Marke ist komplett überbewertet ähnlich wie Aktien am Neuen Markt Anno 1999 Hier sind wohl clevere Marketing Strategen am Werk. Das Gerät hat mich mehrfach im Stich gelassen.

  • Summary: Ich möchte vom Kauf dieses Gerätes, wie von TOMTOM insgesamt abraten. Ich besitze den 740 GO live seit ca. 8 Monaten und haber IMMER WIEDER schlechte Erfahrungen gemacht: Bedienung: Nach Start des Gerätes kann es schon mal 14 Min dauern, bis eine Route berechnet wird, Tastenverzogerung z.T. 2-3 sec. (!!) da die Kiste hauptsächlich mit sich selbst beschäftigt ist.

  • Summary: Zugegeben: der Verkehrsinfo-Dienst HD Traffic hat gute Ansätze. Aber was nützt das, wenn das Gerät seine Grundfunktion, nämlich das einfache GPS-Navigieren, nicht beherrscht? Das Gerät weiß in Städten fast nie genau, wo es ist, fährt in anderen Strassen, als man sich befindet, bekommt Abbiegungen nicht mit, fordert ständig zum Wenden auf, obwohl man richtig fährt.
