Web access is popping up in everything. If you make a product and don’t offer access to the intertubes, you might as well toss it in a black hole and let it get crushed into a state of infinite mass and density. GPS makers have bought into this mindset and now haphazardly toss web browsers into their products, whether they need them or not. Read more

However technological innovation does not mean that Tomtom Go 740 live is worth its cost. The original price is way higher, but I got it for around two hundred bucks from an online deal. In that price with these many wireless features I think this product is worth using. But the services are not completely free. I learnt that after three months there is a charge of ten dollars a month. This is not very pleasant thing for a GPS any way. Read more
This wireless data connection allows the TomTom Go 740 Live to download information relevant to your journey, such as traffic, weather and fuel prices. While these connected services are a useful addition, they didn't always make my commute easier - and the services' costs add up over time. Read more
I bought this product because it advertised Live services. I didn't read the fine print that after 3 months you had to subscribe to get live services. I let it lapse and decided to purchase one month of service since we were traveling to the Dallas, TX area. AGAIN, I didn't read the fine print that if you signed up for one month - you had to CANCEL the service one month before you wanted it to expire. Read more
This is a great product. Traffic and time to destination info are remarkably reliable. It is easy to mount and dismount. One note is that a full battery charge only lasts me a 2-3 hours. But it's easy to plug in and it recharges quickly. Read more
I purchase the Go740's as a replacement for my Dash Express GPS's, and thanks to Rim they killed the Dash which was an absolute dream of a GPS. Also got the Go740's only because Garmin didn't offer a connected GPS at the time of purchase. Needless to say the two TomTom Go740 Lives that I have will be the last TomTom's that I will ever purchase. Read more
I'm very happy with this GPS unit and it only has a few minor annoyances. 1. I've experienced a random reset, though thankfully nowhere near a turn. 2. Live features work only in the US. I travel between LA and Melbourne, Australia with work. So having the features available there as well would be ideal, even if it required changing a SIM, or a premium rate. 3. The text to speech pronunciation is often nearly useless as it's pronunciation is just so horribly wrong. 4. Read more
By Garmin - they might not have antennas as good as TomTom, but most units include Lifetime Traffic, maps updates are cheaper than TomTom ($90.00 lifetime vs $50.00 annual), and offer flat rate repairs for out of warranty units, so if you have a good unit that develops a problem, you can have it repaired instead of throwing it away. I have been a gadget lover for many years and in that time I have had to deal with tech support and customer support from many different companies with varying degrees of success but the support from Tom Tom is abysmal. They bring a whole new and depressing meaning to the word arrogance. I have a 740 Go live, which is a decent product. Read more
I purchased a 740 Go Live on June 17, 21009 on September 17, 2009 I am sending my second one back. Tom Tom's customer support is the worst I have ever incountered. They could care less about their customers. Buy a Garmin. Read more
