Summary: After reading so many bad reviews about this product, it was obvious that the developers hadn't ironed out all the problems. Having been a TomTom user for many years and always liking their products I took the plunge. I like the look and feel of the device. Nice big screen and the graphics look good. On hooking up the device to my Mac I had problems trying to install the update. It wouldn't work on Safari. In fact the update failed and my device lost all its data.
Summary: I bought the Tom Tom 6000 because my Tom Tom 825 while it had been working fine, failed when installing new maps. Because of an imminent European driving holiday for which a sat nav was essential I choose the 6000. This was because in order to receive up to date traffic you either have to connect to your mobile phone with subsequent data charges incurred, lots of charges if in Europe or buy a more expensive device with lifetime live services. Hence the 6000.
Summary: The TomTom device work as it should be, the screen size is perfect . The menu options are simplified greatly. The downside is that missing option to manually reroute in case of the road blockage traffic in front you. Overall the TomTom 6000 is good but it's depends on what you want from the navigation device.
Summary: Dont waste your money go for the 1005 its by far the better spec and a lot cheaper. The bad points 1 No bluetooth 2 No pois on map 3 The map colours are diabolical ( have you seen a map with black roads?
Summary: When I read the description Argos got it so wrong. You can not connect to your phone, to make calls or even have your text displayed or even read as said on the TomTom web site. Seem to have a lot of money for a nav system that does not deliver. Wish I had just renewed my old subscription service on my old TomTom.
Summary: When the last major map update ocurred, unbeknown to me, the udate switched off the speed camera software. Ah well I paid £85 to attend a speed awareness course instead of having points on my licence. I called tom tom and the lass made adjustments so that this would not happen again. I do not like not being able to see my complete route whenever I want to and the loss of AVERAGE SPEED when in an average speed camera zone is too annoying to contemplate further.
Summary: The best Tomtom I,ve owned, the traffic indicator works great and although the 6" screen seems overly big in use it makes seeing the info so much better and quicker that it's a real bonus, also like the stripped back OS who really needs 20 features on a sat nav that you never really use? All in all a great product.
