Summary: I purchased a 540 go live and was impressed by the unit,it's size and it's construction. Setting up an putting it into use wasn't difficult, except the live service. I drive several thousand k's a year, close to 100k and know most of the problem areas in the uk and where I can and cannot go. After a weeks use and constant trying to connect to the live service I gave up and sent it back to Amazon. And true to their word I received a credit within 10days.
Summary: This is a great bit of kit with lots of extra bits that our original Tom Tom 300 does not have. The price is good too. Sadly though I could not put my MP3 files or audio books on it. I tried getting some sense from Tom Tom but sadly they are not of this world and were about as much use as a chocolate chainsaw. Amazon technical help were great but even their skills could not fix my problem of not being able to play N-Dubs and Vera Lynn on my new Tom Tom.
Great high tech product but with room for improvement

Summary: My first TomTom GO 540 was faulty, and had to be returned. I must say that both TomTom and Amazon customer services were very prompt and helpful. Plus points: The device looks and feels a good quality product. The quick release windscreen cradle is especially useful, and I like the USB docking and charging station (no need for a separate mains charger). Once connected, the TomTom software is excellent and very simple to use. Updating it with the latest maps etc.
Summary: First device - Live services didn't work, the dreaded error 107. Much reading on the net indicated that this was not a recoverable problem so I returned it for exchange to Amazon. Second one arrived today and that also didn't work with Live, although it did seem to show some more software options and generally be in a different state than the first! GPS elements worked fine all day.

Summary: The unit itself was fine, but had to send it back to Amazon because I tried downloading the lastest free maps through Tomtom Home and it currupted the software!! This happened twice, with new units. Despite contacts with tomtom technical dept, who are completely useless, I got no answer as to why this was happening. I read from another tomtom owner that you had to have a new email account to register the new satnav and download the maps. This didn't work.
It should be great, but too many initial flaws get in the way.

Summary: I was very excited to take delivery of my new Tomtom 540 Live. On opening it up I found it to be a very good solid feeling device. I used it for a couple of journeys in the afternoon and the mapping was good, more up to date than previous models and the traffic data seemed to be working though I didn't have any hold ups to test it with. Anyway that was all fine until I connected it to the PC with the TomTom home software.
