Summary: My first SatNav after years of thinking they were a waste of money. Reasonably easy to use which is fortunate as the instructions are very vague. Loved it until it decided to upgrade the operating system on visiting TomTom Home. It has never worked since saying that a file was corrupted every time I try to fix it with the hints supplied by the TomTom "support" (not what I would call it).
all good to start with but FM transmission has been removed and cannot trust tomtom

Summary: I can no longer trust TomTom. In the last update, without warning, they removed one of the most beneficial features: the FM transmission. I didn't keep a firmware backup, so now i'm stuck with a half-functioning device as the update can't simply be rolled back. There was no warning of this loss of functionality prior to updating.
FM transmission of instructions no longer available.

Summary: I chose the 520 model because of its ability to send instructions via FM to the car radio. Following a software upgrade last week, this facility no longer works, even though it can still send music via FM. I've contacted TomTom who say- "Devices with FM transmitter functionality is (sic) now unfortunately music only.
Summary: This Tom Tom is very badly designed. Even though it still has the same easy to use interface (which is still great) it has many other faults: 1) The mop thing that sticks to the windscreen is not good at sticking to anything so the unit keeps falling off. 2) The combined power/data connector is at the bottom of the Tom Tom and that has meant that the connector has come loose after falling onto the dash so many times.
Summary: I was bought this tom tom as a birthday present & the battery does not last any more than 90 mins, so you constantly need to keep it plugged into the cigarette lighter. Tom Tom say the battery should last 4 hours. I have returned this unit back to Tom Tom 4 times now & it still is no better. they refuse to exchange it for a new one or refund the money. When I ring up they refuse to let me talk to a manager -their service is a absolute joke!
Misleading, Very Poor Software, Oh and a Car Crash

Summary: I simply must write to advise people to seriously consider purchasing one of these, especially for anyone a) not computer literate, or b) a relatively new driver. My partner has been driving 6 months now and had mentioned a few times, despite my trying to convince her to learn to map read, that she wanted sat nav, which culminated in her getting upset at getting lost for a couple of hours one night.
Summary: Out of the box the TomTom seems great, however when I tried updating the device it corrupted the hard disk resulting in a flashing red circle with a white X. I returned it and got a replacement. After it arrived I had to prove to TomTom I had a replacement as the device number logging it to you can only be changed every 6 months, once sorted I tried running the updates again, this time on the replacement, only for it to happen again.
Summary: Bought in August, trash in November. OK, it's a usable SatNav if/when it's working (supplied UK map has many omissions and some routes are odd) but my one (I might be unlucky) has had both firmware and PC software interface problems. The latest problem: After the latest TomTom firmware upgrade - recommended by the very weak TomTom HOME software - the device no longer works. Tom Tom Support are pretty useless and any way have a 2+ day turn-round between emails.
Summary: The 520 looks great on paper however when I connected it to an Imac it wouldn't initially work. The support from Tomtom in next to useless and they seem to be closed at weekends - website support unavailable and no phone support. I have now returned the item after trying for 3 days to get it working.... Replacement now seems to work fairly well on a G5 mac. Still a couple of major issues. 'Browse Map' doesn't work properly.
Pros: Wenn's funktioniert : ok
Cons: Zubehör bereits nach 2 Monaten defekt; Kundenservice unterirdisch !
