Summary: The Tomtom has great features. But I returned mine. First, the maps are very dated. This makes it iffy at best. It has terrific potential, if it worked. You can use a PDA stylus on the map sitting at home outside on batteries to plan a trip. It's amazing. But I wanted to plan a 600 mile trip myself using it's internal maps and waypoints. But I tried a local test first. I used roads as waypoints, main roads. This way I can force the Tomtom to use MY routes.
Summary: I bought the original Tom Tom Go back in November 2004. Since then, my attempts to reach their customer service have all met in failure. My last attempt, 10 days ago, was an effort to buy updated maps for my product. Yes, their website will offer to sell you maps, but there is no way to determine the date of the maps you already own, and no way to determine the date of the maps that you would be purchasing, in some cases for a large sum of money.
Summary: TomTom go looks cute, and functionality is not too bad. But the products have low quality. If your unit is out of warranty, you are out of luck. It goes bad easily. You are better off buying Garmin. That's what happened to mine. After 1.5 year, my TomTom just broke. Couldn't be fixed and warranty expires. I wish I had done more research. I am buying a Garmin now.
Summary: Great - it comes with maps of the entire US - that are at least 5 years old. The unit is useless the maps are so outdated and no easy update path on their pretty useless web site. I couldn't recommend this to anyone no matter how much I like other features since the maps are the most important thing and they are useless.
Summary: I do not trust the TTG300 to save my life. We bought the item in California and have been using it to make our drive to Florida. Overall, the TTG300 looks nice and is easy to use but the maps on it are out of date and quite often it would get confused as to which road we were located on. When looking for a gas station that was ahead of us and just off the highway, it would show us a gas station that was behind us or was in a town that was 20 miles off the freeway.
Summary: before you buy it go to their customer services or support in their website. They have no customer services or support at all if your TomTom get broken under warranty (and it will happen) there will be no way to fix it cause nobody will replay your email. So, good product, bad company. Try to call to any of the telephones. There will be no replay...ever!!!
Summary: I bought this GPS as a gift for my wife because of it's reported ease of use and the ability to buy and download additional voices. I have problems with the TomTom website. Using any computer it is impossible to make a purchase.. after registering for the site and figuring out which "code" they are asking for...
Great interface and functionality but BAD BAD MAP DATA
22 July 2005
Summary: First, I returned my GO 300 after a week of trying to justify why I should keep it. This product is superior in almost everyway to other similar products except its Map Data is very very inaccurate and the routing is terrible. 1) I tested this unit to route from work to my home and it generated a route that requires me to go through about 20 stop lights when I know the correct route is through 2 freeways and a total of 3 stop lights.
