Summary: I had originally received the NV-U44 as a gift, it was stolen from my vehicle so I had to get another GPS, bought a Tom-Tom but didn't like the features so I gave it to my son, bought a Garmin but it took forever to get signal, ended up getting my other half a different Sony GPS with a bigger screen but would only replace my own with the NV-U44. I find the SD slot useless but you can't go wrong with the clear screen, touch sensitivity & ease of use of the NV-U44.

Conclusion: I purchased this unit yesterday. I have a friend who has been using it for 6 months and really was happy with it. After purchase I updated the firmware version on the webb but when I inquired about updating to the latest Map version was informed I would have to purchase for an additional $100.00 My call was escalated to Cus Service and they also refused to provide a free update?
Pros: easy to use, text to speech included.
Cons: have to purchase Map updates even on a new purchase at a cost of $100.00 so make sure you factor that into the purchase!
Pros: Ok its nice compact works fine, purchased in Jan/09 was advised at purchase that Sony should be supplying at least the first map updated for free as most others have? Awesome Great Buy Great entry model but thats it
Cons: Cannot enter places common in Manitoba such as a Provincial Park. No Bluetooth/ music player but hey its a GPS foremost
