I love Sony gear, so this comes as something of a disappointment

Summary: I actually owned an NV-U50T (the predecessor to this unit) before and chose the NV-U51 as I have 2 cars and it uses the same cradle as the U50T so I did not need to buy a 2nd cradle again (the U52 cradle is different). The U50T was great, but did not offer full postcode searching so I plumped for this one.
Summary: I purchased one of these units mainly due to the rugged appearance of it along with the substantial chunky mounting bracket. The first time I set it up I did find that it took about 5 minutes to establish a satellite signal and I was beginning to feel somewhat demoralised about having purchased it. However, since that first problem the system finds the satellites within a minute of me pulling out of my car park.
Summary: While the screen menus are a little slow and the signal takes a little longer to pick up than my Garmin, what is impressive is the array of features. The traffic signal is alot better than the GARMIN 300T I have because of the sheer detail it provides. garmin unit says slow moving traffic the SONY unit says 20mph traffic. Big difference to travel time. Also it says SHARP right and such always with a PLAEASE and in plenty of time before a junction.
Summary: I've had several sat-navs and this is undoubtedly the worst which is a shame as I am normally a HUGE Sony fan. I've re-examined this now though. Firstly, the unit froze several time and I had to turn it on and off, and re-enter destination details again. This usually happened in the middle of Monday morning rush-hour in a city centre.
Summary: This product is really bad ... it took an hour to find the satellite the other day which meant we got stuck on a slow moving motorway. The trouble is you never know for sure whether the thing will work or not ... an unreliable product is worse than no product at all so give it a miss.
Summary: I recently purchased this item because one it was cheap, two sony always had products I have found to be reliable and three the reviews were good. It is to slow to pick up the signal to load the map. Also on that very bad Friday when the weather caused all the floods it was useless as it wanted to take me everywhere except home as instructed. I also had a recent trip to Lewis in Sussex.
Summary: Where should I start? Good points - Reasonably easy interface - Cheap Bad points - Way too slow to use within a city really like London. It just doesn't run fast enough - The cradle is too clunky, has too much vibration and just isn't able 2 compete with other manufacturers models - The maps are really out of date and I bought it 5 days ago.
Summary: I bought this sat-nav 4 days before attending the corporate games in Sheffield. What a life saver! We had to attend a dozen different venues all over the city and this device got us to every one without fault. I fear we would have missed many events as colleges of mine without sat-nav failed to find several of the venues.
Summary: It's a good, solid, product, and does what you need it to, but it's not perfect. The screen is good, although some of the icons could be bigger (or perhaps I should buy some glasses), and the voice is clear and loud. The cradle can be stuck to the windscreen or dashboard, although the arm does move around a bit when flat.
Summary: bought one not long ago, has taken me correctly to five out of six places! but dissapointed that sony havent had any updates to this unit since jan 2006 its now june 2007, i find that sometimes on newer roads you are driving in green fields on the satnav because of the lack of updates. the satnav will take you the old routes through town centers without the latest maps. over all its not a bad unit for the price and i have heard the same said about more expensive systems.
