Excerpt: There are no alternative programs or other utilities to download or install, in short, a fiasco of connectivity. I was very disappointed to prove it. In short, an attractive product that stands alone in that attractive, because the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Is unwieldy, heavy, bulky and most of its operation is very bad for Sony to be called. Not recommend it. Suggest you go away to a more extended standard similar type.
Summary: This was my first Sat Nav and decided to go for the Sony at the time. I soon discovered shortly after buying that Sony haven't mastered the Sat Nav market as well as other brands. Firstly you can only search using 5 postcode digits. You then have to search through several locations if your postcode doesn't appear which can be frustrating and time consuming.
Excerpt: "...I personally prefer the clean Sony software display over the Tom Tom maps. The maps can be displayed in 2D or 3D view and can be scrolled around fairly easily, if required. Battery Indicators, next turn, current and next road are overlaid and some items can be removed from the display for clarity. Navigation is pretty good on the whole. Warnings are given in advance for turning right/left etc... however, sometimes at roundabouts I\'m told to get ...
Pros: Nice Display, TouchScreen
Cons: Doesn't warn early enough for secondary turns . No non - touch volume controls .
Excerpt: I have now owned the NAVU50 for two weeks. These are my findings. It only accepts 4-5 digit postcodes. The salesman assured me it took 7 digits. It covers long journeys reasonably well but because of the postcode shortcomings it will abandon you anything from 1/4 mile to 150 yards from your final destination.
Excerpt: "...digits in her postcode. The Sony NV-U 50 only allows you to input four digits into the display (via a rather nifty touch screen i might add) which was incredibly annoying and whilst we could use the device for some of the way by inputting area names and then street names, we had to resort to the traditional map reading and as i was in the passenger seat, my boyfriend found this to be the most annoying of all! (I am terrible at reading maps). The maximum ...
Pros: Excellent when teamed with a map, nice appearance, fast route - changer
Excerpt: "I purchased the Sony NV-U 50T sat nav system because I have my own business that requires me to visit customers to survey. I became fed up with wasting time looking up addresses in the a-z so thought sat nav was the way to go. Reliability I have owned the system now for about 2 months and have had no problems with it yet. It seems to pick up signals quickly and has not crashed at all or needed reseting. The mapping appears to be very accurate ...
