Sony NV-U50

peehu, ReviewStream
25 July 2014
  • Excerpt: I’ll tell you about my first experience with the world of GPS, which was not as successful I would have liked. I had purchased and gift this product to myself on my birthday. The first thing that surprised me is that you give away a model of the Sony brand.

Better Sat Navs available for a lot less

Dobbi2009, Dooyoo
20 October 2009
  • Excerpt: This was my first Sat Nav and decided to go for the Sony at the time. I soon discovered shortly after buying that Sony haven't mastered the Sat Nav market as well as other brands. Firstly you can only search using 5 postcode digits. You then have to search through several locations if your postcode doesn't appear which can be frustrating and time consuming.

Sony charging problems/post code problems

Gordon Simmonds, Amazon
21 November 2007
  • Summary: This was my first Sat Nav, having never used one before. First the mains charger stopped functioning and then the in-car charger gave up the ghost. The irritating problem is that it wont let you enter a full postcode for your destination. Say a postcode is AB1 1AB, - you can only enter AB1, and them have to scroll down dozens of roads within that postcode. Also this machine doesnt squeak when nearing speed traps which others do.

OK, don't expect too much

bala "Bala", Amazon
13 July 2007
  • Summary: Bought this about an year ago. I don't use this everyday and take this only when going to visit someone etc. The GPS unit seems OK, being Sony make but the mapping software leaves a lot of refinement. It get really confused when re-routing is required (like you going to a service station on motorway) The voice instructions (espescially in towns) are given right at the end and you don't get time to do it without braking sharply and potentially causing accidents.

NAVU50

3 out of 5, CompareStorePrices
23 February 2007
  • Excerpt: I have now owned the NAVU50 for two weeks. These are my findings. It only accepts 4-5 digit postcodes. The salesman assured me it took 7 digits. It covers long journeys reasonably well but because of the postcode shortcomings it will abandon you anything from 1/4 mile to 150 yards from your final destination.

Sat Nav (or sat navel gazing?)

Lofnorsk, Ciao
6 January 2007
  • Excerpt: Gadgets are not something i'm particularly au-fait with but this was bought for my partner recently and was fairly easy to install in the car that we both use (you attach it via suckers). First and foremost, the price of this product seems to differ quite a bit wherever you look for it and as it was a gift i'm not sure where it came from but it was around the £200 mark which i was slightly gobsmacked at.
  • Pros: Excellent when teamed with a map, nice appearance, fast route - changer
  • Cons: Cost, lack of documentation, slightly buggy

Exactly What It Says On The Box

W. Vandyk "piginspace", Amazon
12 October 2006
  • Summary: The Sony navigation unit has proved to be a very useful tool. On the plus size: + easy to use once you understand the input system + very fast recalculation on the move + easy to read mapping + compact but not so small as to be fiddly to use it does however have a few disadvantages - battery life is poor, so best leave it in the cradle and on charge when in the car - although the spoken instructions are given in plenty of time, the voice is faint and easily drowned out...

Tidy system that does the job well

flamesnm, Ciao
4 April 2006
  • Excerpt: I purchased the Sony NV-U 50T sat nav system because I have my own business that requires me to visit customers to survey. I became fed up with wasting time looking up addresses in the a-z so thought sat nav was the way to go. Reliability I have owned the system now for about 2 months and have had no problems with it yet. It seems to pick up signals quickly and has not crashed at all or needed reseting.
  • Pros: Good quality mapping
  • Cons: is the traffic system worthwhile?

Grundsolide und robust

gramontapo, eBay.de
2 February 2014
