Summary: As a mountain leader I've used and tested quite a few GPS devices and own several. Unfortunately, I bought this one due to the numerous good remarks written about it but, after using it, I realised that most of these were made years ago when most this GPS dominated the screen based mapping view. I had several software problems right from the start with it seizing completely and I could only restart it by taking out the battery pack.
Summary: I have had my satmap for just over a year, and was impressed when I first used it. The facility for downloading gpx files etc was flawless. However, I had to return it for repair last autumn as the joystick stopped working. More recently, I have had serious problems getting a signal. In every instance I have had fully-charged batteries in the GPS and have been in very open landscapes.
Summary: I bought one after reading various reviews which implied it was one of the best on the market. The first one lasted a couple of days before the screen failed to work. It would get as far as displaying the Satmap logo and then flash a few times before going blank. So totally unusable. The replacement arrived but when I removed it from its packing there was a large crack on the top LH corner of the protective screen.
