Summary: I bought this unit as I prefer the use of button controls in cold weather and reports suggested the robustness of the device. In general I am happy with it's use but one issue arose, causing it to require replacement. The unit slips into a materail pouch on your belt and this is a tight fit. I placed this in the pouch at the commencement of a fell walk and the back cover for the battery container snapped through the line of the locking pin, making the unit unusable.
Summary: I so, so wanted to like this product. Got great ratings on the Gadget Show, is raved about elsewhere in reviews, and I was all primed to race this off to the hills. So why did I fall out of love?? Firstly, the initial unit sent to me by Amazon had a split in the "waterproof" back battery case when I opened the box. No real problem, sent the unit back for a replacement. SatMap number 2 arrived - worked for a week until the same thing occurred in exactly the same position.
Summary: I was recommended this GPS by a friend and I'm sure if I had one that actually worked it would be a useful item. The first one I received would not recognise the SD card with the maps on. This was returned to Amazon for a replacement. The second GPS seemed ok at first but when I started using it in the hills, on every trip it lost the satellite signal.
Summary: I live in the mountains and wanted a reliable mapping GPS for walking. I'm techie literate, so no problem there. I was extremely disappointed to receive the item, only to find the battery retaining cover cracked within 2 minutes. I have ordered a replacement, but build quality seems poor to me for a product that by definition needs to be resilient. I will upgrade the review if I have no problems with the replacement.
