Summary: Bought after walking solo and getting slightly lost. Liked the idea of having the OS maps. The screen does not show much of the map at one time, relatively low resolution compared to todays electronic tablets. Also the zoom does not change scale of map. That said useful tool to have on hills when navigation can be difficult. Useful back up to map and compass. Watch the battery meter seems to go pretty much from full to completely drained without showing much in between.
Summary: I am retired, so wanted something to give me total freedom to go backpacking again. It is taking time to learn, but the effort is worth it. It does everything I can think of, and some stuff I can't. It's a very good technical product, and certainly runs rings round my garmin.
Great GPS System; would be excellent with a better battery

Summary: I did a lot of research before buying the Satmap Active 10 Plus and so far, after a month's use, it has lived up to my expectations. It is robust and accurate and has got me out of trouble more than once already! The downside is the battery arrangement which seems very outdated. It is very fiddly to connect and, given the previous user comments over a long period, it is hard to understand why Satmap hasn't updated this to the type of battery readily available with...
Summary: I have had my Satmap for over a year now, hence have a pretty good idea of performance, in particular for cycling. I agree with most good things said about it, and give it a good rating overall but deal with some niggles first. The grey `zoom in' button on the right hand side of the unit snapped off after about a month. This was probably because to me it looked as though you should press the button down, whereas it should be pushed in.
Summary: I spent a considerable amount of time researching sat nav devices before eventually buying this one & I am really glad I went for this one. I didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds then realise I had bought the wrong one. It's fantastic! Planning, downloading a route & following it are a breeze with only a little practice. Very easy to follow, website is full of useful info & downloads. Battery life is unbelievable, you get several days use out of one charge.
Summary: I bought my Satmap Active 10 Plus in 2009 and have used it regularly on day walks and long distance paths in England, Scotland, Wales and France. Overall, my experience of using the unit has been very positive with a few minor annoyances along the way. From my experience, the following points stand out.
Summary: I have a Cycle version of this but use it mostly for walking. It offers many options and takes a while to master, but when you have it is recording your trail, adds a lot of value to the route. Statistics are available while you travel and when stopped at the end. This is added value over the memorymap 2800 it replaced. I have not tried following a route yet, as I have not had a real opportunity yet.
Summary: I purchased this unit to replace one that i lost on a ramble. the satmap active 10 is a great gps if walking or cycling and with the satmap software to print off walks and create walks it is fantastic value
Summary: I have had my satmap for just over a year, and was impressed when I first used it. The facility for downloading gpx files etc was flawless. However, I had to return it for repair last autumn as the joystick stopped working. More recently, I have had serious problems getting a signal. In every instance I have had fully-charged batteries in the GPS and have been in very open landscapes.
Summary: I bought this unit as I prefer the use of button controls in cold weather and reports suggested the robustness of the device. In general I am happy with it's use but one issue arose, causing it to require replacement. The unit slips into a materail pouch on your belt and this is a tight fit. I placed this in the pouch at the commencement of a fell walk and the back cover for the battery container snapped through the line of the locking pin, making the unit unusable.
