inaccurate feedback from others

Amazon Customer "Jo", Amazon
19 January 2015
  • Summary: I bought mine about 18 months ago now and have been nothing short of thrilled with it. I have posted this review to address some of the comments left by others. I have just suffered from the unexplained breaking of the battery back cover and had to order a replacement. Thankfully this was fairly priced (unlike the spares for some products I own).

Auto sleep can be a pain

Pigprof, Amazon
13 March 2014
  • Summary: My main reason for buying this product was to be able to log position of features and points from which I take photos and to create track logs, rather than to show me where I am walking. Hence I may not refer to it for long periods. The auto power down function (to increase battery life) means that if you forget to fire it up at regular intervals you lose chunks of your track log which I find very irritating. I have not yet found a way to turn that function off.

Best buy ever

Amazon Customer, Amazon
26 January 2014
  • Summary: I've been using the Active 10 Plus for a couple of years now and would highly recommend. Easy to use, even with gloved hands. Nice and clear and Satmap service is second to none. The battery life is brilliant with the LiPol battery. (My previous GPS was a Garmin CS60x - can't say the same for either the battery life or customer service with that one.

The Best Outdoor GPS Yet

The Systemic Kid, Amazon
28 December 2013
  • Summary: I'm a big fan of anything that makes life easier. I've tried several other outdoor GPS systems - Satmap is way ahead of the pack. It's easy to set up and use and doesn't lose signal easily. Now that OS have dropped their prices, it's possible to have the entire map of the UK on one card with 1:25 detail for £250.00 which is amazing. Back up from Satmap is excellent - I've had mine serviced after some minor damage. Great product.

Not the best but definitely the most expensive

Mr. I. Roberts "Ian Roberts", Amazon
21 December 2013
  • Summary: As a mountain leader I've used and tested quite a few GPS devices and own several. Unfortunately, I bought this one due to the numerous good remarks written about it but, after using it, I realised that most of these were made years ago when most this GPS dominated the screen based mapping view. I had several software problems right from the start with it seizing completely and I could only restart it by taking out the battery pack.

excellent

Rottie, Amazon
17 December 2013
  • Summary: We use this for walking in europe in the summer and winter skiing also. Only use it for tracing our paths and looking at them at home but it can do so much more with ease. simple to use and set up, maps of europe are not cheap but are good enough quality. Would I buy another - most certainly.

Updated map prices for Active 10 - and other comments

Ray Wilkes, Amazon
6 December 2013
  • Summary: Looking at previous comments, and update is needed as the OS have reduced license costs for electronic 1:25k maps and these are now very affordable. GPS is a supplement to paper maps not a substitute, but now you can have a 1:50k in your map case for a good area cover, and the 1:25 at the touch of a button. It took me about 4 walks to get used to the Active 10 and really start to like it.

Useful Gadget

M. Davidson, Amazon
28 August 2013
  • Summary: Bought after walking solo and getting slightly lost. Liked the idea of having the OS maps. The screen does not show much of the map at one time, relatively low resolution compared to todays electronic tablets. Also the zoom does not change scale of map. That said useful tool to have on hills when navigation can be difficult. Useful back up to map and compass. Watch the battery meter seems to go pretty much from full to completely drained without showing much in between.

taking time.

Richard Kelsall, Amazon
21 August 2013
  • Summary: I am retired, so wanted something to give me total freedom to go backpacking again. It is taking time to learn, but the effort is worth it. It does everything I can think of, and some stuff I can't. It's a very good technical product, and certainly runs rings round my garmin.

Awsome Sat Nav

Mr. B. Smith, Amazon
17 May 2013
  • Summary: I spent a considerable amount of time researching sat nav devices before eventually buying this one & I am really glad I went for this one. I didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds then realise I had bought the wrong one. It's fantastic! Planning, downloading a route & following it are a breeze with only a little practice. Very easy to follow, website is full of useful info & downloads. Battery life is unbelievable, you get several days use out of one charge.
